Pregnancy is a unique and complex experience which brings physical, emotional and psychological change in a body of a woman. It isn't something to engage in without adequate prior preparation if one will not have to blame herself for at the end it the day. In this piece, I am going to share the physical, psychological and emotional aftermath of pregnancy that makes me to vow not to ever how to societal pressure of getting pregnant.
Emotional aspects of pregnancy is a whole lot, Talking from experience of my first pregnancy, my anxiety and worry about the safety of my child is fretting and persistence.The body change is also dramatic for instance irritating stretch marks, nail brittleness,foot and ankle swelling, increased weight gain due to the presence of foetus etc.
Also, self indentity shift is another underlying complex experience that pregnant women usually experienced. This can be low self-esteem. Many pregnant women won't be able to attend fun full events with their spouses, friends, family members etc due to their present body shapes, hormonal imbalances and constant morning sickness.
I personally underwent uncertainty and fear. Fear and uncertainty about labor, it's pains, delivery, post Partum, Parenthood etc. This has make me to consider the fact that no one can pressurised me in to getting pregnant when not adequately plan for it.
Psychological aspects of pregnancy is multifaceted and complex. There are some pregnant women that will never an uninterrupted sleep throughout their pregnancy stages. Here,there is high rate in change of taste bud, appetite, diets, food intake, cravings and lots more. The most hilarious part of it is that those cravings might not even be good for the body. I remembered during my first pregnancy how I hate rice, semolina even the sight prepared semolina nauseated me, to the extent that I might wants to throw up. And this is the same food that I can eat at least four times in a week.
Still on psychological aspects, pregnancy can prevents one from attaining a particular goal, academic level, finacial obligations, career goals aims and objectives. Imagine a pregnant woman reading for an examination, while hormone can say otherwise and when this happened, the reading will of course be postpone, and at the end of the day the exams day will be dark. Let's even assume a beautiful pregnant woman running for a young lady model, if intellectually she can perform, she might have zero marks for other awarding marks.
The physical changes of my body during my pregnancy is something I don't always wants to remember. A once glowing skin which now turned to darkened skin, the acne, my breast become enlarge and of course most of my underwear were changed, I have to dropped some clothes because they are now to tight. Frequent urination! alas, should I talk about the back pain which is caused by the weight of my baby? or the fact that my sleeping position changed and to change posture while sleeping is always an herculean task! Should I talk about heart burn Or the frequent urination while you at the end of the day caught some sleep and urination is disturbing again.
Pregnancy is one thing that society, family, friends or my spouse can never pressurised me into, I have to get ready again for it, both emotionally, psychological, physically and even financially if at all I will I will reconsider taking that journey again.
