The usage of herbs from my side of the continent is not just for medicine but it also considered a culture. Each tribes and ethnic groups have a distinctive usage of herbs that is passed down from generation to generation like a tradition. In those days no one really cared about getting diagnosed by medical practitioners, they had strong believe in the effectiveness of herbal medicine they could fetch from their farms and surrounding.
Gradually modernisation sets in which brings about innovation in every aspect of the society, introducing modern medicines to the society till its adoption led to the near extinction of usage of herbs. It is no doubt that some of our modern medicines are also a product of herbs but in a more refined way. People would argue that the advent of modern medicine as brought about cure to some unknown disease in the olding days but it also has its short comings.

We now have drugs that consist of chemical compounds that does more harm to humans than good. I wouldn't condemn the usage of modern medicine because I have read few research articles about times when malaria was rampaging rural settlement like corona till the advent of modern medicine that reduced the rate of casualties. One of the reasons behind the easy adoption of modern medicine was due to the fact that there wasn't any form of actually prescription when it comes herb usage compared to the modern medicine. All they have in mind is that its works, I have seen people advertise herbal medicines that seems to cure more than a thousand illness, it makes you wonder if its claim is proven medically.
In Today's society, every household have at least a sachet of modern medicine compared to those days when all that exist within the house was herbal medicine. It is almost impossible to imagine that there was once a time when all we hard was herbs but then what if a time comes when mankind is unable to manufacture modern medicine what happens then? One of the special things about humans is our ability to survive regardless of the situation we find ourselves. Our ability to survival supercede any of our abilities.

Despite the fact that we have adapted to the use of modern medicine doesn't mean we have totally forgotten the existence of herbs. We still have some households in this modern era that still prefer the usage of herbs to modern medicine, though it might be difficult for some people to turn back to the usage of herbs, I mean compared to herbs there are a lot of ways modern medicine can be taken but herbs is limited to few ways like drinking or bathing with it which might be a reason why some might still choose to stay away from it.
But then, at some point our irritation of herbs would not matter since our survival depends on it. I'm quite sure if a person is offered a choice such as "die from an illness or make use of herbs" in such a case he/she wouldn't care about their irritation for herbs or its challenges. As far as I'm concerned mankind will do anything to ensure their survival regardless of the means, though fully depending on the usage of herbs will definitely take some time but it is not impossible.
