Indeed memories bring back memories and one of such memory that brings joy on my face when ever I remember, is the more than Houses program held two years back in the federal capital territory Abuja. Before hearing of the Academy first, I had no intention of going into anything called construction but then when it came I embarrassed it with my hands wide open because some opportunities are not permitted to slip from your hand.
It all started on a Saturday evening, I was outside washing clothes and my dad called asking if I was willing to learn any skill in construction. The first thing I did was to ask the type of skills involved and he referred me to my aunt cause she knows better. She first mentioned about four which were masonry, carpentry, iron bending, and welding. My God how can I learn all this type of work knowing fully well am not going to practise it and it would turn out to be a waste of my precious time. I was about declining but then my curiosity made me to ask again if that was the only skill involved. Actually that's not all she said and then she mentioned painting and decoration my heart gladdens with so much joy and I embarrassed the opportunity. The next day Sunday, I took my bag and baggages and left for the park. My joy was not just the opportunity even though it came with some allowance but I was happy that I would be leaving to a new location after a long time of not traveling. When I arrived park we didn't waste so much time before our journey kick started but we meet serious hold up on the way. Journey of two hours from kaduna to Abuja took us six hours before arriving our destination so stressful but glad I was in a new city.
though the registration has ended as at the time I went but still able to secure a slot for my self with the help of my aunt husband who works in the organization. Looking forward to the resumption day and it finally came. All the admitted trainee's resumed class for the first time and we did an introduction to know ourselves better some vital information was given to us and we were told the theory aspect would last for three months before practicals for nine months a total of one year.
The academy brought sweet and bitter memories and the bitter one involved money 😂 I was staying with an uncle of mine, despite the fact the company gives us a weekly allowance no day passes without him giving me free tips which made my bank fat. I was lending people money and was happy doing so not until I encountered an ungrateful heart. This guy came for help though I was not willing to give him at first because he was demanding for huge amounts but then what he need the money for was important and I have it so I gave it out and till date have been hearing stories upon stories meaning I didn't get my money back and whenever I remember it I wish I can travel back to my past to not give him the money.
That aside the bad memory I have sweet ones. I made friend with some amazing guys and literally we began family. There was no where I go u won't see them and they nicknamed us one mans squad. One day I was walking alone to site and a guy was making jest of me I got angry and confronted him but he continued. Because I was bigger than the guy in size I thought I could beat him so I gave him good hot slap and then he grabbed my both hands and was about landing me on the floor at that point I know no be about big body 😁😁 but then thanks to the squad from nowhere they showed up and came to my rescue if not the rest would have been another story.
When ever I remember that incident all I do is to laugh out loud and imagine if no one came for my rescue but at the same time I learned to walk away rather than fighting when ever people are looking for my trouble.
The squad
