A lot is happening among teenagers today, and sometimes it feels like they neglect the valuable lessons they've been taught. It’s disappointing, but also a reality that many of us have witnessed. I’ve often wondered how I would react if I were in a situation where a young girl, say a daughter, found herself pregnant while seeking admission into the university. What would the next steps be? How would she, or any parent, handle such a huge challenge? From an outsider’s perspective, it’s easy to judge, but when it’s close to home, the situation calls for empathy and careful consideration. If this were me, I think the first step would be to really listen to her. Before jumping to conclusions, I’d want to understand how she’s feeling, what led her to this situation, and what she is thinking about the future. After the initial shock, it’s about supporting the next steps.

Finding out you’re pregnant at a young age, most especially when you're about to start university, can feel like the world is turning upside down. It’s a thing that requires a lot of thought and strength. But just because things have happened unexpectedly doesn’t mean all the dreams and hopes you’ve had are over. There’s still so much possibility ahead. If I were in that situation, I think the most important thing would be to guide her with patience and love. I’d want to sit down with her, listen to her without judgment, and help her figure out what her next steps are. Considering her options and giving her the space to decide what feels right for her would be crucial. Support would need to be unconditional, just making sure she knows that no matter what happens to her, she’s not alone.Of course, balancing school, raising a child, and managing everything that comes with it is not going to be easy.

There are going to be so many emotions and obstacles, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to move forward. It’s hard, no doubt, but I believe in second chances. Life throws challenges at us that feel impossible sometimes, but we don’t have to face them alone. It’s about figuring out how to keep moving forward, not backward, because of your situation, how to continue with your dreams, and also taking responsibility for the new path you’re on. What matters most here is remembering that mistakes don’t define you. A setback like this might feel huge, but it doesn’t mean you’re stuck. Life can be unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of what we have. Whether she decides to continue her education or raise a child, whatever option feels right, it should be hers to make. What really matters is that she feels empowered, supported, and knows she has the strength to handle what’s ahead.
But above all, what would matter is that the young person feels empowered to make decisions, knowing that they have a strong support system to lean on. It’s a difficult situation, no doubt, but I think it’s also a chance for growth. It would take a lot of patience, but as a parent, the best response would be to stay calm, supportive, and involved. Giving someone the space to navigate their feelings and make the best choices for their future is crucial. In the end, though, it’s not about dwelling on mistakes—it’s about looking at the future and finding ways to overcome obstacles together. No situation, no matter how tough, has to be the end of a person’s dreams. With guidance, love, and patience, any challenge can be turned into an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
