Recently I handled a responsibility I thought I was completely incapable of. At first, It seemed like it was really meant for a more qualified person. The task in question was actually meant for a highly qualified person, but I never knew how qualified I was; and that was the problem. Responsibilities are not just things we got to take up, in most cases, they are suppose to help us discover ourselves. They are suppose to bring out the hidden gem in us, and when when we shy away from them, we might never get to know how powerful we really are. In my own case, I would have waved it away if I had the chance. I would have deprived myself the chance of discovering who I really am. I probably would have missed the best chance of discovering what I am really capable of. Thank God I never had the chance to wave it away.
On the second week of January 2023, the batch A stream 1 of the Nigerian "National Youth Service Corps" (NYSC) was called up, and I was one of them. The beginning (the orientation camp) was fun and stressful at the same time, but that was nOt the point where I took up the biggest responsibility of my life. After the orientation camp, I reported to my PPA and began my serve like every other corp member. After three months of service, I was appointed the CDS president as the batch C corp members passed out. Now that was the beginning of my life's most tasking responsibility. Having been elected the CDS president, I was completely confident in myself. As a matter of fact, I was certain I can handle the position of a CDS president, but I never knew there was more to that. Few weeks after I was elected the CDS president, my Local Government Inspector deem me fit for the position of the CLO. Now that was a bigger task, while the CDS presidents govern small groups of corp members (corp member are sheared into little community development group with), the CLO is to serve the corp members in the entire Local Government. I never saw that coming; and so, I gave my inspector plenty of reason why I thought I was not the best man for the job. After laying down my innocent excuses, my inspector smiled and simply told me that the work of a CDS president and that of the CLO are certainly not different in anyway. Going on, he told me that he was certain that I was the best man for the job. At this point, I just had to accept my faith; I pick up the most tasking job I have ever handled. The truth is that I am yet to understand how I was able to handle such a huge task all by myself. Up till now, I am still amaze at the level of leadership skill I exhibited while handling that position. I never knew I had any of those in me.
Thank you for reading through my little life story. I remain your boy @ernesto6402. One Love✌️
