Growing up, my parents didn't really let us out and play with most children in the neighborhood, we were always indoors, I'm glad I even had siblings with that we could play together, act movies by ourselves and do other things that our little minds could think of as a form of entertainment, especially when our parents weren't around.
This particular trait of always being indoors tagged along with me until adulthood. I would prefer to lounge on my couch or bed rather than go out, my friends have almost given up on me, they're hanging on a thin line of thread. I might plan with a friend to go out over the weekend, and last minute I'm canceling, not because something urgent came up, or because I couldn't go anymore, I just became too lazy to go out.
On this particular day, my friend dragged me out and said we must leave the house, so I had no choice but to follow. I asked where were going, but he wasn't willing to tell, he said should just dress in comfortable clothes.
So we set out, and by the time we got to our destination, I discovered that it was a wildlife conservation center. I pass by this particular place every day on my way to work, but I have never for once visited the place.
We got in, got our tickets, and the guides gave us some safety orientation about the place, things we were permitted to do, and things we couldn't do for the sake of our safety. While giving us a brief overview of the place, our guide made mention of a canopy walk that they had, he said there were seven in total, and he said the first one wasn't so high up, after you finished the first one, you get to the tower of decision when he said this, I was like what are you talking about. He then went on to explain that since this first walkway was the lowest, you had to decide whether or not you wanted to continue, as there was a means of exit at that point, but if you closest to continue, you would proceed to the tower of no return, at this point you won't be able to turn back as you can only go forward.
At this point, I and some other people who were with us were beginning to become afraid, as he said the lowest of the canopy walks was 25 feet above sea level, while the highest was 75 feet above sea level. At this point, some persons already made up their minds that they weren't going to proceed as they were scared of heights. I said to myself what is the worst that could happen, I would just be scared of the height, there was no way I could fall as the walkways were very securely fixed with cables holding them, at that moment, I decided I was going to go through all the sections, I wasn't missing anyone for any reason.
We started our walk through the swamps, while walking, I saw a crocodile, saw some monkeys jumping. Then we proceeded to the canopy walk, at first when I got on it, I was a bit scared, I refused to look at the ground, but I said to myself you've got this, I braced up and began walking.
I thought it was going to be scary, but surprisingly it wasn't, although someone said that the people that go with you at the same time matter, because if they're screaming and shaking, the canopy will also shake and I still fear in you, but the people I and my friend went with were very calm, so the whole walk was calm.
When we got down, we went to the family park where we had some food. The park had different local games like ludo, chess, snakes and ladders etc. There were swings also, I didn't fail to hop on one as it's been a long that I went on a swing, so I utilized the opportunity.
The was also a pond that even had fish inside, I stood there for a while watching them, it was nice to watch them swim around.
Overall, I had a fun time out, and I couldn't thank my friend enough for dragging me out, as it was a time well spent.
