We all have different meanings for a perfect day, and for me, it doesn't require much, whether I am indoors or outdoors. I take the same approach to my everyday life, and even though the outcomes are not always the same, I feel blessed, probably because I always have the hope of tomorrow and a contented spirit.
I feel grateful for the slightest things, and this has been a strength for me in recent years. Before now, I used to have a different definition of a perfect day, and as much as I tried, I never got closer to that definition until I became enlightened and matured enough to understand that attaining perfection as a human is almost impossible.
I stopped chasing that perfect day and now try to make the best out of every day, which makes me happy. In response to the Hivenaija weekly prompts, here are the three things that need to happen for me to have a perfect day:
The gift of life is one of the things that define my day, and it includes being healthy. I believe you will agree with me that for any human to have a beautiful or perfect day, it all begins with waking up in the morning, which is a privilege, not to mention going through the day doing the necessary things as planned.
Once I am out of bed, I feel blessed, and that’s the best thing that could happen to any human because everything I will achieve in a day depends on the gift of life and my well-being.
Having a perfect day isn’t just about myself, and I didn’t understand this until I lost a friend on a day I thought was perfect. That year, some of my friends came to my house for a small gathering. We were still young and always enjoyed each other’s company. I made a little food, we watched movies, and the day was perfect, but it only lasted until around 9 p.m. Among us was Gbenga, who decided to return to school that afternoon and was involved in an accident that claimed his life.
The happiness and good feeling vanished after the news reached me, and the so-called perfect day was gone.
This experience opened my mind to the fact that we are wirelessly connected to one another, so the well-being of my family and friends contributes to me having a good day. No matter how beautiful a day might look, one piece of bad news about a friend or family member is enough to ruin everything.
Therefore, I always look forward to the well-being of the people around me. Contributing in a little way or just knowing that my family and friends are doing well will definitely influence my day, so it counts as something that must happen.
Finally, having good food for myself and my family matters a lot, so it should be on the list of things that must happen. You can call me a foodie, which is well appreciated, because I find it hard to function when very hungry.
Just like this morning, I was too busy with chores and couldn’t make my breakfast early enough. While preparing a simple breakfast, I tried writing a post, but it wouldn’t just happen. I couldn’t function properly until I ate a bowl of spaghetti and sauce. The food gave me the strength to write this post, so it’s okay to say that food is very important.
In conclusion, my perfect day is influenced by the simple yet profound gift of life, the well-being of my loved ones, and good food. All of these, with gratitude, allow me to experience happiness in my everyday life.
By letting go of the chase for perfection and appreciating what truly matters, I have learned to make every day beautiful, creating memories I can always revisit.
