Leading a nation is not an easy task, as we the citizens often watch and criticize the leadership of a nation because of their bad decisions and shortcomings. You know that situation where umpires in a stadium are seeing more faults in the athletes, meanwhile these umpires can't do even 1% of what the athletes are doing if given the opportunity to participate in the sport? That's exactly how leadership is. The citizens sit down, observe, and find errors, while if they're given the opportunity to lead, they can't achieve anything tangible. I'm not excluding myself, I am among those who criticize the leadership too.
But notwithstanding, if I get the opportunity to become the president of Nigeria and under normal and favorable circumstances, the first two things I will tackle are power (electricity) and gasoline.
Since time immemorial, power has been one of the biggest challenges in Nigeria, and it has seemed unsolvable because a lot of presidents who have ruled us have tried, but nothing worked. I know you're wondering how I’m going to tackle that and be successful with it since other presidents have tried and didn’t succeed. It’s going to be tough, but it’s doable. The other presidents tried, but they didn’t do their best.

First of all, I’m going to implement a law in the power sector that will make all the staff in charge of the power sector sit up, and if they are found wanting, they will face penalties that could lead to them being relieved of their positions. Before doing this, I must have already established a clear policy in my office that corruption will be completely eradicated. With this, the management in the power sector will sit up and take things very seriously, treating their jobs with utmost importance.
The next step will be to allocate funds to regulate and standardize the power sector. This allocation of funds will come when the management have assessed and estimated what is needed. These funds will be properly monitored to ensure that the money is used appropriately and not diverted into someone’s pocket, as has been the case in the past.

The only challenge in standardizing the power sector is that it will require a lot of funds, but with a gradual and consistent approach, and ensuring that all tariffs paid by users are utilized properly, it will be achievable. When power is stable in a country, many other things that seem not to work will begin to function properly, and the cost of living will significantly decrease, compared to what it is currently.
Tackling gasoline
I’m not going to reintroduce the fuel subsidy that was removed. No, rather, the refineries in the country will be revived and put into full operation so that the natural resources can be refined into fuel, kerosene, and diesel locally.
Putting Nigeria’s refineries to work, or even establishing new ones, is going to cost a huge amount of money, but in the long run, things will become smoother. By then, the cost of gasoline will become considerably less expensive, and the standard of living in Nigeria will be slightly better.
