Life is full of memories, and these memories are some always amazing and some not so pleasant. As humans, we all get emotional anytime we recall the past events in our lives.
Sometimes we recall a beautiful event, and we start smiling all by ourselves, and people around might begin to wonder what is tickling our fantasy. Some other times we recall an event and wish it took a different form, or we can correct the errors we made or undo a particular decision we had made.
For me personally, there are many events I have experienced in my life that are all memorable, including traveling to the popular Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort in Cross River State, Nigeria. My experience at the resort was great. Winning an intraschool football competition, where I was the MVP and the best goalkeeper in the tournament. To going on a trip to the Ikogosi Spring, where I experienced nature at its finest. Ikogosi Spring has cold and hot water coming out from the same rock, but one can clearly see the hot and cold water being separated as they are running down to the stream. I marveled at the site of this amazing work of mother nature.
I could recall my wedding ceremony, and I would be all smiles. It was one occasion that I look back on, and I can't stop blushing. It is a memory that would never fade away. I see my wedding pictures, and my smile is broad and brighter than that of the sun.
The above memories were great, and I love them all. But if I am given a chance to relive a memory, that would be the day my wife put me to bed. I remember the day like yesterday. It was around 6 p.m., and my wife called and said that she felt really uncomfortable. I asked her to check her hospital card for the expected date of delivery. She called me and informed me that it's on the 30th of December and it was just the 23rd of December. I became worried and put a call across to our doctor. She asked us to come over to the hospital. We got to the hospital, and she said my wife would sleep over at the hospital for a proper checkup and monitoring.
The next day I had breakfast and was getting ready to have my bath when my phone rang, and it was our doctor. She asked me to come over to the hospital. I asked her to know what the problem was, and she told me to just get to the hospital as quickly as possible. I rushed down to the hospital, and my wife was already in the labor room. My heartbeat increased as I heard her screaming and groaning; at that moment I became restless. At about 9.05 AM, I heard the cry of my daughter, and there was this calmness that descended on me, and I smiled uncomfortably.
The nurses cleaned my daughter and wife up. As I held my daughter in my hand, I experienced an unexplainable joy, which till this day I can't remember being that happy. The birth of my daughter is an event that I will love to explain again. The 24th of December 2023 is a day I will never forget in my lifetime.
