As a Nigerian, a typical one at that, one who has lived his life modestly while following home teachings, I would say that my life pattern is following a routine that has existed before me and I have not been able to have ample time to do some stuff on my own without being pushed or asked to. You know, it is one thing to create a new lifestyle and another thing to live by the traditional family life you met in the home you were born.
There are many things I have learned in life that even school cannot teach. Things I have devoted time and attention to learn. One of such is that school cannot teach you how to cook using firewood. You probably won't be taught how to use an axe to cut a dead log into smaller pieces and turn it into firewood. You sure won't be taught which direction your toothbrush should delve when having your morning mouthwash. Some of these daily routines one has to learn as an average African child. I did learn them and I am proud to say that anywhere. Despite all these, there is one thing, I do not spend enough time studying. Come along as I share with you what it is.
The Most Hated Book In The World
The Bible is the most hated book in the whole wide world. Yes, I mean the Bible could be as a result of many factors that I may not want to share here, at least not now.
I would have loved to study the Bible more than I have. Not just for the stories that can an individual wise and knowledgeable on how to live life, do business and have a cordial relationship with everyone, irrespective of their belief, creed, gender and social status.
Sometimes, when I hear people who have devoted more time studying this book, I feel some guilt and that has made me feel there is a vacuum that ought to be filled.
My Daily Triangular Life
One of the things I have as a heritage is that I was trained to be and early bird. I am so used to rising from sleep early and hitting the road once it is daybreak. My parents would never take you seriously when you go to work late or come late for an appointment. So, they have always ensured that we leave home early so as not to be late to school.
Now that I am a parent too, I have started imbibing the same attitude for my wards and it is seriously paying off. Everyday, after leaving home for work, we return home for days that we do not have to go to church programmes (usually Tuesday and Thursday). I often miss most meetings in the evening of these days. It is painful though to miss such a meeting but I preferred to miss the meetings with men than with God.
Despite that, I still feel that I need enough time to study the Bible on my own and reach that stage where I can give what revelation I deduce from studying the Bible.
My triangular life patterns have helped a lot. I don't go to places where there could be an eruption of chaos.
Sometimes, when I hear a preacher giving a vivid explanation of the words from the Bible or some stories I have never come across, it sounds like I should start all over again to study and meditate upon the words.
The little time I have spent in Bible teaching programmes have been very beneficial but I want more. I want to have more time to look into the books of the Bible as I have come to know that if anyone studies and meditates upon the world written in the Bible, he or she would definitely become a better person.
