Sleeping and waking up is what every human being craves for and begs God anytime anyday , but, have you ever imagined when such a blessing we yearn for becomes a source of trauma that you want to sleep back and set things right in your dream just like you would love to go back to dream when you've woken up while you were enjoying a party? lol.
Parents could never be defined properly by mere words as words can never capture entirely the role they play in our lives, hence, can never explicitly say in words who they mean to us but in summary, Parents are our physical God..
Regardless, parenthood isn't just about bringing creatures to life, it entails owning up to your responsibilities also.
You may not have seen someone who just discovered that the parents he's been living with ain't his biological parents but you can imagine the pain that comes with discovering hidden truths; for instance with the whole social media trendings on various paternity tests on the children turning negative rendering many dads almost insane; crying uncontrollably upon such declaration without even knowing they're in public... That's the kind of pain you'll get to feel.
Growing up, I've always adored my parents, suddenly, I wake up from sleep and next thing I heard is,
Samuel, could you come to the sitting room, we have something to tell you....
Confused and filled with curiosity as to why coming to the sitting room for information should be the very first thing to kickstart the day, I'll quickly rush out to know whatever information awaits me, but then,never to be thrown off with 5 heafty words:
We think you're grown enough for us to tell you that, WE ARE NOT YOUR PARENTS.
And without giving me the opportunity to even pass through the stages of grief properly denying how true it could be or not, they handed me my adoption documents and it's clearly written there.
Poor me... What could I possibly do, how could I possibly process these information to make a meaning from it.
I'll quietly walk out of the room without saying a word, then cancel every plan I have for the day because obviously, it'll be a display of shame should I get to work or engage in any major activity without processing this information properly as my mind won't be fixed to any task and even if I should get to work that way, it'll be a day for transferring aggression to my fellow workers which doesn't make sense.
It will definitely take me days to get to accept the news I've just been told as I'll rather opt to accept the 1% chance of it been a prank other than the clear 99% showing me it's the truth but then, think about it, if my real parents haven't been there for me all these while, it literally means the ones that adopted me are automatically my parents.
What exactly were you expecting?
For me to get to an adventure of tracking who my actual parents are or what?
And what if I eventually see them, what would I say to them?
To me, it's all a fickle game so the best decision I'll make then will definitely be to allow the news sink deep but still take them as my parents because that's who they really are but I'll obviously love to know a bit about who the so called biological parents even though I doubt I doubt any reason will be good enough to justify their action of putting me up for "sale"
That's it! Once I'm done processing the information, life moves on as if nothing ever happened.
I will still take them to be my parents, will still honour and cherish them because they've brought me thus far to the level I am.
This is really a prompt not so easy to write because most times the inks we pen down aren't as easy as it seems to be in reality when you're faced with the situation.
I've just been trying to place myself in such a situation to come up with something decent to publish here but, the fact is that it seems my memory shuts me out from even thinking about it at all.
Reality indeed hits differently and sadly, truth cannot be hidden forever.
