Recurring expenses are expenses you keep making over and over again. Recurring expenses are incurred when one keeps spending money on something repeatedly over time.
I believe that everyone makes recurrent expenses. Some of the expenses we can do without. However, we still continue to make these expenses. There could be several reasons for this. Maybe we are just used to spending money on those things, or obsessed, or it could be any other reason.
Let me share what my recurring expenses are.
One of my recurrent expenses is buying snacks/junk food. I do this a lot. I just find myself buying snacks or junk food at random moments. Even when I have eaten, and I am full, I usually get the urge to have a snack.
I love the idea of having something to keep my mouth busy, especially when I'm working on something. If I'm studying at night, I usually have snacks by the side. One reason is because taking the snacks little by little while studying at night can help me fight sleep when it comes. Another reason is to prevent the hunger that comes when one stays up at night.
Sometimes, I see junk food and I can't resist buying it. When I remember how lovely they taste, my appetite for them increases.
Another recurrent expense I have is drinks. I buy soft drinks a lot. Sometimes I try to stop, and it works for a while, then I go back to buying and taking them after a while.
No doubt, these drinks can be refreshing, especially when taken chilled, but I know that taking too much of them can be bad for your health. If I try to calculate how much I've spent on soft drinks in total, I know it would be a fortune.
One more recurring expense for me is subscription. I subscribe to my cable and I subscribe to streaming services like music streaming and movie streaming. These subscriptions take a good proportion of my money regularly. I use these streaming services a lot, despite the fact that I can do without them.
I subscribe to these things because they help me relax, and they are a source of entertainment.
Each of these expenses I make have some relevance. The snacks, the drinks, the subscriptions, they all contribute to making my days fun and satisfactory.
Without them, my days would feel weird. For example, studying at night without the snacks would feel weird because, in a way, the snacks help me to be efficient at night. Furthermore, in the case of drinks, there are times when the day is just hot, sunny and stressful, and all you want to do is take a cool soft drink to regain your energy. These cravings come up, and they need to be satisfied. I feel that it will be a huge change in my life to go without spending on these drinks, and it will take some getting used to.
Streaming music and movies helps me fight boredom. They keep one engaged. So without these expenses, I believe life would be just bare. There wouldn't be many exciting things to look forward to.
