I initially liked Dan Crenshaw. I had some hope. That was dashed awhile back when I saw some of the positions he pushed.
I began viewing him as John McCain 2.0 quite some time ago.
John McCain's political career was built on him being a prisoner of war and surviving. He is known to have sung and many of those that knew him in the military would call him "song bird" referring to the fact he would SING for his captors while he was a prisoner of war. SING in this case refers to John McCain telling them whatever they wanted to hear. McCain also crashed a plane on a ship causing a fire and some deaths. He was allowed to skirt that and get away with it due to his father's influence.
Then he went on to be a great Neo-Conservative War Hawk. He is one of the people that despised and hated Trump and the only time he and some of his friends were dancing and happy with Trump is when he shot missiles into Syria. They called that "Presidential" and were happy. (Nancy Pelosi was there with him dancing)
He could manipulate people due to his history as a prisoner of war. Yet he was a corrupt and very despicable person. He milked that aspect of his life for everything he could. Veterans despised him.
Enter Dan Crenshaw
Wounded on the field of battle. He lost an eye. The eye patch is a great look. Many people, myself included like the idea of someone who has experienced war being a representative for us because we think they will not be quick to go to war considering what happened to them. That assumes they did not like the war, get a rush from it, etc. It also assumes that a lot of money from military industrial complex, big pharmaceutical, and energy company lobbyists cannot get him to change his mind.
In Crenshaw's case he appears to be doing the same dance that McCain was doing. He is milking the eye, and the "war hero" label for all he can. There are a couple of things we need to realize. Being injured does not magically make a person a good person. Being a "war hero" does not magically make a person a good person. We cannot know his motivations or who he is based upon these factors.
I wrote a post earlier today about my views on the Afghanistan botched withdrawal. As I was writing that I actually thought "I bet Dan Crenshaw comes out in favor of going back to Afghanistan". I thought that before I saw the articles telling me that yes he did exactly that. He was not alone. Link
