Procrastination! The word seems to have a kind of mild tone, however it's effects are nothing near how it may seem to sound—at least, the perception of the tone coming from my own perspective. It has gone through time, proving to be one of the greatest hindrance to determination, focus, hardwork and ultimately, success. The moment it finds its rest in a situation you can as well be sure that the matter is one that will surely remain at rest, no any motion unless it—procrastination of course—is removed from the equation.
Procrastination is that matter that will always come with irreparable consequences. I think its power lies in its ability to be cunning; hiding in the shadows of vain or false hope that there's time to do it later. It's always about later, never the now. However, what's wrong with the now? Procrastination will always make it seem the better; maybe best option to leave what should be done now for some time later. Guess what? The time never comes—or they do, but very late. You could say that procrastination is one of life's greatest robbers. Funny how it does its own without force or weapons, only some deceptions and mind games to play.
The matter of procrastination had cost me much. Were I to make a list, it will be a long one. Its mostly surprising how we find we've been cheated by it only at the end—of some valuable resources, success, progress, growth. At such points, it's always painful. One certainly important thing it has cost me was some grades I'll say, while in school.
We were to have a presentation in about a week's time then. With such time limit was the need to push through and make every second count. Having a whole lot of work ahead and what I already consider a tight schedule, procrastination began creeping in at such moment as well. Much more was when it was postponed by some days. Hence, I felt the needed to ease of and take some rest; since I have more time now. And that's the biggest deceptive tool of procrastination—the thought that there's still some time.
I went on to take the rest for a day, two, three, until it was few days to the presentation. Knowing what was at stake, I had to make efforts now to do as much as possible before the deadline. Unfortunately, I couldn't do as much as was needed. I ran out of time and had only a limited level of work to present, which didn't really go well. It was a sad thing to begin reliving how time was wasted under the deception that there was, until there wasn't. That ultimately played some impacts on my grade. It wasn't that bad, then, it could've been better. Well, there was the opportunity to, but procrastination cost me that.
I've seen procrastination for what it is, much more since that incidence, and I've done my best to not give it a room to show up its unwelcomed face again. Much said than done; it's a constant effort to rise above it, and I'm grateful for the efforts and progress so far.
