Many years ago our ancestors suffered from different diseases, their children grew up with certain challenges, some resulting in physical disorders and some even lost their lives.
But thank God for advancement in science and medicine, today there are vaccines of different kinds preventing certain diseases from tormenting both adults and children.
In our day, we have fewer children suffering from certain diseases that our ancestors battled with, diseases like polio that cause many children to be physically challenged are no longer common.
As long as the child is given proper vaccination, those diseases have few chances of tormenting their lives.
Although some people don't believe in vaccination, there are so many myths around vaccines. It's funny how even the educated are misled by them.
I can remember vividly when the COVID-19 vaccines were given out, some people came with cooked-up stories that the vaccines were created to destroy our immune system and gradually degrade its strength till it kills us.
As casual as that statement was, it prevented a lot of people from partaking in the vaccines.
My mom told me how some years ago, some women refused to go for antenatal because they didn't like the idea of vaccines given to children, they taught the medical people to want to use it to harm their children, unfortunately, that wrong decision was made some of the lost their kids.
I see vaccines as a savior, if not for vaccines, a lot of us would have been struggling with one health challenge or the other but where we are healthy, with stronger immune systems due to some of the vaccines we were given.
Everyone has their beliefs, I know sometimes, things can go south, the vaccines might cause certain contrary reactions to the patient but it doesn't mean that all vaccines are bad.
To me, vaccines are part of the reasons why our systems are resistant to certain diseases. To reject vaccines is to make ourselves vulnerable to diseases.
However, since I became an adult, I have not received any vaccine. I didn't receive that of covid 19 because a lot of things were being said about the vaccine that scared me.
Well, thank God the disease disappeared if not only God knows what would have happened to some of us who didn't get vaccinated. Imagine living like a soldier on a battlefield without bulletproof.
Well, I have a few vaccines I am planning to go for, I missed the opportunity when they were given for free, and now I have to pay to access them but I think it's worth it.
