The truth is time is very valuable. And like every valuable thing, if not treated with caution, care and wisdom, it goes away and never returns.
If there is anything on earth that I am so, so mindful about its “Time.” It is always moving, whether you are in action or not, it doesn't care, whether you are doing the right thing or not, it has no business with you.
It has no sympathy to halt for a moment for anyone. If you are moving it takes you along, if you stop, it goes and leaves you. No wonder, it is said “Time waits for no one.”
One of the biggest limitations of man is time. Our entire existence is tied to it. You are born and then before you know it, you are an adult and just when you feel like you are beginning to understand life better, time would alert you that you are of age and need to join your ancestors.
But does this mean that because time is a limitation we can not maximize our full potentials? No, this is where time management comes in.
A lot of people complain, giving excuses for not achieving certain goals and reaching certain heights in life, laying blame on lack of time.
But in the same world, we have seen people who are successful, who achieved their goals and dreams while living in time.
I am currently studying a book by Joyce Meyer, “Making Good Habits, Breaking Bad Habits.” This book has so transformed my life.
She spoke about procrastination and how to defeat it. One line I love so much in the book is “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
Time waits for no one, if all you do is talk, I assure you, you won't do anything because time is never enough for anyone before you know it another activity would come and steal your attention.
The best way to do a thing, is to do it right away. “Once I'll do it later,” becomes a habit in your life, you are in trouble.
I am not a procrastinator, I used to be but I have been working on it and seeing results. One thing that has been helping me so far is the principle of doing it right away.
Anything I am supposed to do and I don't do it at the moment, I presume I won't do it.
I started disciplining myself to overcome the bad habit of procrastinating by doing my bed every time I wake up before doing anything else.
Sometimes, I make a list of everything I want to do and ensure I do them first before I give room for other activities and trust me, I am enjoying the new me.
As much as I don't believe in haste, I believe that time waits for no one. If you don't do it now, you might not do it later. Sometimes, 24 hours don't seem to be enough for me.
You wake up and before you know it, the day is gone, if you don't make good use of it, that day is gone forever and time is counting.
This is why I think we should always make the best use of every second we have. Time once gone can't be brought back and I am certain a lot of us have experienced the bad side of not making wise use of our time.
Whenever I am done with my daily routines, I either spend time reflecting on my life, reading or planning for the next day.
Seriously, I can't say what activities are a waste of time for others but for me, anything I do at the wrong time that doesn't benefit me is a waste of time.
For example, watching movies when I should be reading, going for a walk when I have work to do. Hanging out with friends when I should be attending to work.
Those activities on a good day are good but when they are done at the wrong time, they become a waste of time.
