When harmful products or substances are introduced into an environment, the environment is said to be polluted. These harmful substances end up contaminating the air, the water or land. These harmful substances over time have consequences on the health of humans and the entire earths ecosystem as a whole.
There are different types of pollution such as;
Air pollution: Air pollution happens when emmisons from vehicles, industries and fossil fuels are released into the air hence contaminating the air and having obvious consequences.
Water pollution: The water is polluted or contaminated when chemicals runoffs and industries waste that are deposited into the water bodies and sewage disposal pollutes the water.
Land pollution: The lands are contaminated and made unfit for living or even agricultural activities from industries activities, oil mining, chemicals from agriculture and industrial activities.
Noise pollution: Polluted cities suffer from
Loud pollution as the loud noises from vehicles, traffic, heavy duty and industrial machines cause noise pollution and can lead to nervous unrest, disorder in the environment or even nervous breakdown.
Pollution had cause so much adverse effects to man’s health and the environment as a whole and some of these effects includes;
- Health issues: Pollution has adverse effects on man’s health and such effects includes respiratory problems caused by air pollution, some of the diseases of air pollution includes asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cancer of the lungs, Bronchitis (Acute and Chronic) amongst others.
Water pollution results to diseases like cholera, dysentery, typhoid fever, Lead poisoning which is as a result of water contamination from
Lead pipes and wastes from industries and these causes kidneys or brain damage and etc.
Environment damages: Polluiton leads to damages to the environment, these damages leads to the disruption of our ecosystem, the loss of biological diversity and also changes in the climatic conditions.
Negativeeconomic impacts: Pollution is genral had adverse effects on the agriculture, the genral productivity of humans and even tourism and thereby impacting the economy negatively.
In my opinion, air pollution is the worst type of pollution and it’s also alarming due to the amount of impact it’s having on the ends general human health and also how negatively it’s been affecting climatic changes.
It would be difficult to put an end to pollution but some measures can be taken to reduce the impact of pollution on the environment and man and some measures to put into place includes;
- Creating awareness about pollution and the adverse effects it has and also reaching and promoting the practical ways by which it can be curbed.
- The government and private bodies should institute, implement and also enforce strict laws that would help to check pollution.
- Go for the adoption of other sustainable practices and technologies that would help to reduce pollution such as the use of renewable energy resources and promotion of technologies that are eco friendly.
- The entire community can should be encouraged be a part and parcel of the fight against the reduction of pollution in the environment and watch out to report defaulters to appropriate quarters for disciplinary actions.
