Procrastination is an unnecessary delay in handling situations or postponing activities that we are supposed to handle to another time knowing that there are negative consequences that could be in the future that are detrimental to our life.
In a world where people no longer value time and everyone wants to stay in their comfort zone and just relax only to do things in the 11th hour. Procrastination has made a lot of people lose important opportunities and make mistakes that they will forever regret in their lives. Time waits for no one and anyone who misuses their time can never get it back.
There are a few symptoms that are associated with procrastination, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and stress. These factors relate to the way the body reacts when we procrastinate and end up working under pressure trying to accomplish a lot of things at once.
Procrastination as bad as it has a little bit of advantages that we all don’t not know about. You know one thing about procrastination is that it makes you work under stress handling too many activities, trying to meet the required deadline. This increases our productivity and creativity and sometimes we give ourselves accolade for the little achievements.
My personal experience as a young man who was fresh out of the university and looking for a job. So, on this faithful day a job opportunity popped out with the civil defense and immigration services, there was a deadline for submission of application. So, the problem was that I paid for certificate collection in my school and I was yet to pick it up before the job opportunity popped up.
So, I kept on postponing going to pick up the certificate and the deadline was already drawing close, and the funny thing is that I even called one of my guys to help pick it up, but you know guys now he couldn’t and secondly, I had to be there in person to pick it up.
So fast-forward to 3 days to the deadline to close of application, the 11th minute rush began i was thrown into a frenzy trying to rush to school pick up my certificate and get the other documents ready for the application and all said and done I was only able to apply for the job on the last day and by some miracle I was able to accomplish it.
When the list was released for those who have been employed, unfortunately my name wasn’t I broke down because I know I brought this upon myself, look what procrastination had done to me.
Fortunately, it was published that it was just the first list that was published, and the second list came out and I was employed but with a lower rank. Let me explain it all here, those who submitted on time got better positions and higher pay. And I should have been one of the first if I overcame procrastination and submitted on time before the deadline elapses.
Procrastination is a very bad disease learn to manage your time well.
