We are in a fast paced world and many people neglect their health due to one reason or the other. While some claims there is no much resources to visit the hospital, some believes it is not necessary as they have the believe that whenever they visit the hospital, the medical practitioners will always find another underlying disease it ailment that they had no idea of so to avoid this, many don't visit the hospital for checkups. They neglect their health until something goes wrong and becomes detrimental. Checkups are one of the most effective ways to maintain good health and prevent unwanted illnesses.
Some people wait to see symptoms and signs before believing something is wrong and seeing the need to visit the hospital. Proactive health monitoring can save lives, reduce expenses and improve overall wellbeing. Taking my father for example, despite having a child and a brother in the medical profession, he finds it very difficult to go for medical checkups. For the past three months, I've been trying to convince him to visit the hospital due to his regular complaint of headaches but still he is still adamant about visiting the hospital. There are people like him who finds it difficult to go for regular checkups just because they don't like visiting hospital. Regular medical checkups has lots of advantages that cannot be overemphasized. These are benefits that people underestimate and neglect till they can no longer withstand it when their health began to deteriorate.
- Early detection of disease:- regular checkups made early detection of any disease easy. Many conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and most importantly cancer develop slightly without obvious symptoms. Screening and tests helps doctors identify these issues at the early stages when treatment are often easier and simpler and more successful than when they are at later stage and all hope is lost. Early diagnosis can make the difference between managing a condition and a life threatening illness.
- Preventive care:- regular checkups are also for prevention not just for diagnosing a disease. Medical practioners are able to advice or give recommendations on food, supplements, and vaccines that are suitable to live a healthy lifestyle and avoid health problems before they start. Preventive care reduces risk of developing chronic diseases and enhances long-term health outcome.
- Cost effective health management:- another reason why people avoid checkups is because of the cost implications and in the long run, the cost of treating a terminal disease would be much more than the one for the Preventive care. Preventive care is more affordable and that's regular medical checkups. Early detection can reduce the need for expensive treatment, hospital stays or medications for a long period of time. At last, regular checkups significantly cut down personal healthcare expenses.
- Monitoring existing health conditions:- for those already living with one chronic health condition or the other for example asthma, arthritis, heart condition and many more, regular checkups are very vital. This allows the doctor to track the progress of the disease, adjust treatments, and provide support to improve quality of life. By checking regularly, it makes sure the condition does not worsen and helps prevent complications.
- Mental and Emotional wellbeing:- emotional and mental health are as much as important as physical health. During regular checkups, people would have the opportunity to discuss any psychological concerns with their doctors, early intervention to tackle stress, anxiety or depression can lead to better outcomes and a healthier life.
I am used to the hospital setting therefore visiting the hospital isn't a big deal for me and with the opportunity of working as a medical practitioner, I do take time out to do general checkups especially as a lady, it is very important. The believe of another illness arising when one goes for a medical checkups should be abolished, enlightenment should be given to people with this mentality not to put their life at risk. A hospital is a place where solution is being provided, and if other illness or diseases are found it means such person has it as an underlying ailment without knowing about it because if no symptoms which is a great opportunity to tackle it at the early stage.
Regular medical checkups are a connecting factor to healthy lifestyle. They provide a path to early detection, effective prevention, and timely treatment of diseases. By going for regular checkups, individuals are not only protecting their health but also gaining peace of mind knowing that nothing is wrong with them healthwise or discovering early diseases and treating them at early stage. We are in a world where health challenges are ìncreasing daily, regular checkups are simple but powerful tools to staying healthy.
