Hola amigos, glad to join you all in this prompt towards the keyword "culture". Culture is widely recognized as the way of life of a people in a particular society. But culture also carries the way a group of people accepts new changes in the existing culture. Culture is not just all about way of life but adaptability, i.e, the ability to add, remove, and make the cultural lifestyle more suitable, that is what culture is meant to be.
For me, culture is just like an organization that does what best fits them for their survival and growth, in general, following procedures that foster economic stability. Traditions and customs are features that help the world of culture stay alive, my traditions and beliefs will differ from yours if we are not from the same tribe. Culture aside, being a people's way of life is also a unique order that the society makes use of to accord individuals respect about their beliefs and values.
I practice the Igbo cultural way of life. The Igbo tribe is one of the three ethnic groups. My country, Nigeria, has three major ethnic groups that are Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. These ethnic groups are considered the major ethnic groups because of their population, economic, and political participation. There are the tribes that are superior to other tribes, being the main reason Nigeria is what it is today.
The Igbo tribe is known to be business inclined and also one of the top owners of natural resources like crude oil and coal. I am proud of my culture. In the area where I come from, Eziudo, Ezinihitte local government, in Imo state, we usually have a colanut festival, which I know to be the most important festival celebration to my tribe, but the Igbo generally celebrate the new yam festival during the months of August and September.
My community, Eziudo, will be hosting next year's cola festival, which usually takes place in respect to the 13 communities that make up Ezinihitte LGA. Each community hosts the colanut festival at the beginning of January, the beginning of the year.
Despite the new Yam festival being known as the most popular and widely celebrated festival all over the country, it doesn't even stand a chance against the Calabar carnival, which attracts several kinds of personalities, like tourists, artists, and even actors, coming to witness a colorful occasion. This carnival is the most popular in the whole of Africa which was initiated by Donald Duke in the year 2005 when he was the governor of the State.
Donald Duke was the founder of the Calabar carnival that we all know today. It was an avenue created to help the Calabar cultural way of life continue to thrive and live. Being part of this carnival will give you a first-hand experience of the cultural activities, language, way of life, and beliefs of Calabar people. It is a colorful occasion that brings joy across the nation.
The perspective that I would like to do more research on is the beliefs of people in a particular culture. I am mostly interested in exploring the Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa beliefs. My wish is to know why they believe in what they believe and who enforced such beliefs. There is also, I believe, my culture that only an elder can eat the gizzard of a fowl, and that if eaten by someone other than the elder, it will be considered taboo.
The culture which I've also liked to practice is the Akwa Ibom culture, particularly regarding their choice of food, which is afang soup. This is known to be one of the highly recognized dishes by the Akwa Ibom people. It is a dish which is mostly prepared for special occasions like weddings, festivals, and naming ceremonies. The reason I would love to practice this kind of culture is because of my love for food, it has also come to my notice that the afang soup is delicious which makes me hungry for it.
