Natural disasters are usually caused by natural processes, such as rain, wind, environment , climate and many more, in most cases they cannot be prevented but can be managed when they occur.
Natural disasters is a worldwide issue ,it causes severe destruction in the affected places, in most cases it leads to loss of lives, and destruction of properties and remarkable injuries.
It's dangerous, but can't be prevented, but rather controlled, planned for, and in most cases an awareness is created for the citizens to keep them safe and protected from these deadly natural disaster
Here in West Africa, Nigeria to be precise the natural disaster that's common among us is flooding, I have never seen or heard about hurricane, volcano and many more, I only see hurricanes and volcano in movies.
This flooding is common in the Southern part of Nigeria, I haven't experienced it directly, but I have resided close to a community that experience flooding, so many communities have been affected by flooding in the sourthern part of Nigeria and it's really a disastrous experience that can desolate a community at large, destroy properties, render properties useless, lead to death, deprive people of their homes and lead toxic health conditions too.
Flooding is a natural disaster, that's caused by heavy rain fall but then there are other causative factors that can be traced to human ignorance, such poor drainage system , environmental degradation and poor drainage cleanup which can lead to blockage of water flow.
Flooding is a dangerous natural disaster because of it consequences to humans, it can lead to death, especially when there's no prior warning given to the community.
Flooding can also make people, children, parents homeless, we all know the important of having a shelter. Flooding will deprive you of your home and rest.
An area affected by flood ends up looking desolate., Houses covered with water and properties all soaked and drenched in water, at this point the academic activities of you kids is affected, including your work as a person.
Flood leads to stagnant water, and stagnant water is very dangerous to the well being of humans, because it's usually contaminated.
It smells, flooding leaves the environment contaminated and unhealthy for people to live in.
Leads to sickness such as malaria, diarrhea, and typhoid.
Flooding also causes destruction, not just to the individual, but the community at large.
Infrastructures are destroyed, classrooms destroyed, office and files destroyed and many more.
Recovering from flood isn't easy, because it's destructive and dangerous.
In this week prompt, we were asked some questions and these are my responses. And
I haven't experienced a flood before, like I said in the beginning of my post, I have seen a neighboring community that suffered from flood, so I haven't had a personal experience, but witnessed the effects it causes on people.
All I felt for the community affected by this flood was pity , because the sight of the destruction it caused really broke me down, it destroyed what took people years to acquire.
I don't think anyone saw the flood coming, I. didn't see the flood coming that year , not until the rain pour that year was outrageous.
Also, it's important to note that in the southern part of Nigeria, there's low grounds and high grounds.
The most affected areas of the flood are the low grounds.
To manage or go through these natural disaster called flooding, first you have to exit the environment, staying in such environment will cause more harm than good to you.
Stagnant water can be really smelly and dirty, contain debris and can can cause sickness and accidents too.
So the water should be avoided, if possible.
And lastly, control and turn off all forms of electricity.
The survival tips, I would give to anyone going through flooding is to exit the environment with their prescious and valuable resources as soon as they can.
Flooding is a painful experience and it causes so much harm to humans and affected areas.
