So, After some thinking, um'n and ar'n and all that, I've finally decided to spin up a hive witness node!
I'm running it on my home computer (which happens to be a beast of a machine) on my home network. One of the things that sparks the idea was @apshamilton's guide on setting up a node on windows WLS 2.0 and the recent de-platforming of platforms by large cloud based service providers.
Having a few nodes running on home networks is great for decentralization and a good backup if for some reason the large cloud companies decide to crackdown by taking down servers.
I happen to have decent internet here in the UK with no bandwidth limits and a very powerful PC so it seemed like a good idea to give it a go. I had a lot of fun setting it up and did run into a few issues that I eventually managed to get around.
@apshamilton's Guide here as well as @rishi556's post here are what I used to get set up in under a day. In fact it took 6 hours from start to finish to get the node fully synced and setup.
Anyways! If you'd like to drop me a witness vote by all means search me up on you favourite platform or go here for an easy way to vote https://vote.hive.uno/@shmoogleosukami
If anything I've probably got the prettiest witness on hive.
