Greetings to all. On this occasion I bring you a thought-provoking story. It is about abandonment and the consequences suffered by people who are victims of this abandonment. I hope you like it and that it will be to everyone's liking. Without further ado, I present to you: Hunger and Dream.

Hunger and sleep

It has been a while since I have seen the person I admired and loved most in the whole world. I thought we were going for a ride in the car like we always did, but when we got to a place where there weren't many people, he stopped. He got out of the car, opened the door for me and I got out. I thought we would have an afternoon outing but when I barely got a little way from the car, my friend got back in, closed the door and drove off.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the car accelerate. I ran full speed behind it but it wasn't as fast as those four wheels. So I stopped and tried to catch my breath, for I had become too agitated; I felt like my heart was going to burst. There, in the middle of the road, I turned sideways and realized that I was completely alone, there was no one else around. The silence was overwhelming and I could hear nothing but my calls for help....

I was screaming for help for a long time, even until it got dark. Only then, when I saw the darkness around me, I kept silent and took refuge in a pile of dry leaves and the roots of a huge tree. I had never spent the night outside, so I was very scared. I tried to sleep but there were too many noises that kept me awake, very strange noises that I had never heard before. I even saw animals I had never seen before, so I screamed at them as much as I could to get them away from me. It was an eternal night, my first night away from home....

I woke up shivering from the cold and hungry. I had no idea where I was or where to go, so I just started walking along the side of the road, towards the same direction the car that abandoned me had gone. I walked for hours but got nowhere, that's when I saw a car approaching in the distance. I was very happy and my heart started beating again with excitement. It was coming at high speed, but I didn't care, I started screaming as loud as I could as it approached. It passed me and I started to run after it, trying to catch up to see if I could get it to stop. Unfortunately, the car didn't stop; no matter how many times I yelled at it or ran after it, it just kept going.

I was very sad to see that the car didn't pay attention to me, so I turned my gaze back to the direction I had decided to take and continued walking. A couple more cars passed by again and I tried to make them stop, but none of them stopped. Then, a motorcycle passed very close to me and I almost caught it, but the motorcyclist gave me a kick that hurt me a lot. I was very confused by that blow, so I lay down for a while in some bushes to get over the pain.

Another day passed and the night returned. Along with it came back the horrible noises, the scary animals and the horrifying darkness, but this time I faced everything with more courage and screamed as much as I could, to drive away every evil that came near me. In the end, I did not realize at what moment I fell asleep, but I woke up when the sun was already warming me, because my body was very cold from sleeping outdoors.

I haven't mentioned that cars often leave some food debris on the side of the road. I have come across some good smelling stuff and some with an unpleasant odor. Who knows why some people eat such strange things, but I am thankful that they have left some on the side of the road that I can eat. It is my third day away from home and I managed to eat something; not much, but I managed to eat something...

It's been a couple of days since I arrived in the city, after a lot of walking on that road. It is more familiar to me because there are buildings, many people and places where there is food. I'm really glad I arrived, because this way I won't have to run after cars to make them stop, although it has become a habit and I still do it after several days of living in these streets, outside of what was once my home.

When I go for a walk in the mornings, people look at me ugly and move aside, as if I were a monster that is going to bite them. I'm hungry, yes, but I don't eat people, that's bad. What I do like to do, is to look in the garbage for some very tasty things that people leave there, like bags with sauces or half-eaten breads. I find a lot of food, especially in the garbage of restaurants, but I don't always get to eat something, because the owners come out to hit me with a stick when I'm trying to open the bags to get to the food. I yell at them, but they hit really hard, so I end up running away from them.

Almost every night I go to bed hungry, but today it's not going to be like that. Today a man came up to me and put a collar around my neck. I was very happy because it had been weeks since a person had approached me to pet me. This man was very kind, he even gave me something to eat and put me in his truck. He left me locked in a small cage, but I was fine because I had eaten something. The good thing about this is that I wasn't locked up for long, as the man got me out of his truck and took me to a building where they had others like me.

I was in that place for many weeks. At the beginning they gave me a lot of food, but lately they don't give me enough, sometimes they don't even bring me food and I go to bed hungry. The worst thing is that now I am locked up. In the city I was hungry too, but at least I was free....

Recently the man took me out of the cage and took me to a white place where he had many strange things I had never seen before. He stroked my head and belly a little, I felt very happy, but suddenly I felt a prick. As I turned around I saw that the man had something sharp in his hand, something with a needle. I don't know what it was but I didn't worry. After a while he took me back to the cage where he had me locked up and left me there.

I wonder what happened to the other dogs that were there with me. They were just taken out of their cages when they were asleep, who knows where they were taken. The only thing I know is that I am hungry, I am hungry and sleepy too...

Well friends, this is a story I wrote with the intention of making pet owners think. Our pets are our life companions and we should not abandon them, as they suffer a lot when this is done to them. Better to give them up for adoption to someone who can take care of them in case we cannot.

Hambre y sueño

Hace rato que no he vuelvo a ver a la persona que más admiraba y quería en todo el mundo. Pensé que íbamos a pasear en el auto como siempre lo hacíamos, pero cuando llegamos a un lugar donde no había muchas personas, se detuvo. El bajó del auto, me abrió la puerta y yo bajé. Pensé que tendríamos una tarde de excursión pero cuando apenas me alejé un poco del auto, mi amigo subió de nuevo, cerró la puerta y se fue.

Mi corazón dio un vuelco cuando vi el auto acelerar. Corrí a toda velocidad detrás de él pero no era tan rápido como esas cuatro ruedas. Así que me detuve y trate de recuperar el aliento, pues me había agitado demasiado; sentía que mi corazón iba a reventar. Allí, en medio de la carretera, voltee hacia los lados y me di cuenta que estaba completamente solo, no había nadie más en la cercanía. El silencio era abrumador y no se oía nada más que mis llamados de auxilio…

Estuve gritando por ayuda durante un buen rato, incluso hasta que anocheció. Solo en ese momento, cuando vi la penumbra que me rodeaba, guardé silencio y me refugié entre un montón de hojas secas y las raíces de un árbol enorme. Nunca Había pasado la noche fuera de casa, así que estaba muy asustado. Intenté dormir pero habían demasiados ruidos que me quitaban el sueño, ruidos muy extraños que nunca antes había escuchado. Incluso vi animales que nunca antes había visto, así que les grité tanto como pude para alejarlos de mí. Fue una noche eterna, mi primera noche fuera de casa…

Desperté temblando de frio y con hambre. No tenía idea de en donde estaba ni a donde ir, así que simplemente comencé a caminar por la orilla de la carretera, hacia la misma dirección a la que había ido el auto que me abandonó. Caminé durante horas pero no llegaba a ninguna parte, fue entonces cuando vi un auto acercándose a lo lejos. Me alegré mucho y mi corazón nuevamente comenzó a latir de emoción. Venía a gran velocidad, pero no me importó, comencé a gritar tanto como pude mientras se acercaba. Pasó junto a mí y comencé a correr detrás de este, intentando alcanzarlo a ver si así lograba hacer que se detuviera. Lamentablemente, el auto no se detuvo; no importó cuantas veces le grité ni cuanto corrí detrás de este, simplemente siguió su camino.

Me puse muy triste al ver que no me prestó atención aquel auto, así que volví mi mirada hacia el rumbo que yo había decidido tomar y continué caminando. Un par de autos más volvieron a pasar e intenté hacerlos parar, pero ninguno se detuvo. Luego, una motocicleta pasó muy cerca de mí y por poco la alcanzo, pero el motociclista me dio una patada que me dolió mucho. Quedé muy confundido por aquel golpe, así que me recosté un rato entre algunos arbustos para pasar el dolor.

Otro día pasó y volvió la noche. Junto a ella volvieron los horribles ruidos, los temibles animales y la horrorosa oscuridad, pero esta vez enfrenté todo con mayor coraje y grité tanto como pude, para alejar a todo mal que se me acercó. Al final, no me di cuenta en qué momento me dormí, pero desperté cuando el sol ya estaba calentándome, pues mi cuerpo estaba muy frío por dormir a la intemperie.

No he mencionado que los autos suelen dejar algunos restos de comida a un lado de la carretera. Me he encontrado con algunas cosas con buen olor y otras con un olor desagradable. Quien sabe por qué algunas personas comen cosas tan extrañas, pero agradezco que hayan dejado a un lado de la carretera algunas que sí puedo comer. Es mi tercer día fuera de casa y logré comer algo; no es mucho, pero logré comer algo…

Han pasado un par de días desde llegué a la ciudad, después de mucho caminar por aquella carretera. Me resulta más familiar porque hay edificios, muchas personas y lugares donde hay comida. Me alegra mucho haber llegado, porque así no tendré que correr detrás de los autos para hacer que se detengan, aunque se ha vuelto un hábito y aún lo hago después de tener varios días viviendo en estas calles, fuera del que alguna vez fue mi hogar.

Cuando salgo a pasear por las mañanas, la gente me mira feo y se hacen a un lado, como si fuese un monstruo que los va a morder. Tengo hambre, sí, pero no como personas, eso es malo. Lo que sí me gusta hacer, es buscar en la basura algunas cosas muy sabrosas que deja la gente allí, como bolsas con salsas o panes a medio comer. Encuentro mucha comida, sobre todo en la basura de los restaurantes, pero no siempre logro comer algo, porque los dueños salen a pegarme con un palo cuando estoy intentando abrir las bolsas para llegar a la comida. Yo les grito, pero ellos golpean muy fuerte, así que termino huyendo de ellos.

Casi todas las noches me acuesto con hambre, pero hoy no va a ser así. Hoy un hombre se me acercó y me colocó un collar en el cuello. Estaba muy contento porque habían pasado semanas desde que una persona se me acercaba para acariciarme. Este hombre fue muy amable, incluso me regaló algo de comer y me subió a su camión. Me dejó encerrado en una jaula pequeña, pero estaba bien porque había comido algo. Lo bueno de esto es que no estuve encerrado por mucho tiempo, ya que el hombre me bajó de su camión y me llevó a un edificio donde tenían a otros como yo.

Estuve en ese lugar durante muchas semanas. Al comienzo me daban mucha comida, pero últimamente no me dan suficiente, a veces ni me traen comida y vuelvo a acostarme con hambre. Lo peor es que ahora estoy encerrado. En la ciudad también tenía hambre, pero al menos era libre…

Hace poco el hombre me sacó de la jaula y me llevó a un lugar de color blanco en donde tenía muchas cosas extrañas que nunca antes había visto. Me acarició un poco la cabeza y la panza, yo me sentí muy alegre, pero de repente sentí un pinchazo. Al voltear vi que el hombre tenía algo afilado en su mano, algo con una aguja. No sé qué era pero no me preocupé. Al poco tiempo volvió a llevarme a la jaula donde me tenía encerrado y me dejó allí.

Me pregunto qué habrá pasado con los otros perros que ahí estaban conmigo. Simplemente los sacaban de sus jaulas cuando estaban dormidos, quien sabe a donde los habrán llevado. Lo único que sé es que tengo hambre, tengo hambre y también sueño…

Bien amigos, esta es una historia que escribí con la intención de hacer reflexionar a los dueños de mascotas. Nuestras mascotas son nuestros compañeros de vida y no debemos abandonarlos, ya que sufren mucho cuando se les hace esto. Mejor darlos en adopción a alguien que pueda cuidarlos en caso de que nosotros no podamos.
