It’s time to start curating some sample packs for the sound library, maybe we should rename this the Hive Sample Library, let me know your thoughts. I want to update you on the thoughts I’ve had around the direction we could take with this project and how it could make great use of Hive’s tipping tools.
The idea is to publish posts entitled “Sample pack #1 - Jazz breaks” as an example title. There will be a link in the post to the downloadable pack, which will be a zip file containing folders of samples, which will be wav files, koala sampler projects, kontakt libraries or whatever format you’re able to create.
My suggestion would be that we use platforms such as Gumroad because it’s a popular place already for sample packs by other creators. A good opportunity to link from there back to Hive as well.
The post on Hive with the link will also include a video demonstrating the pack in use, the creation of the pack maybe or a bit of both.
I’m going to get the ball rolling by creating some packs of my own, just to help give people an idea of what we’re looking for, the videos will be demonstrated through the use of Koala, uploaded to 3Speak and YouTube with a link to here.
Packs can be a small collection of 3 or 4 files if you want but I’m going to try and come up with larger selections.
It goes without saying that sounds must be our own creations. Record from your own drum kit, guitar or go out and do some field recording, whatever you fancy.
I will say that old breaks from vinyl records should be ok, so long as you’ve pitched them down and made them your own. I’m going to be doing some of that.
So we need to be mindful of this stuff!
Now the important bit!
If you’ve downloaded a pack either upvote the post, tip it or do both. This is especially important if the post you’ve found and pack associated was uploaded many weeks ago or further back in time.
I would love to see more evergreen content on hive.
