En días pasados, caminando por las calles del pueblo, me topé con un amigo cuyo trabajo se lleva a cabo en la "Casa de la Cultura" (El Ateneo del pueblo)... Y hablando de una cosa y la otra terminamos recordando días pasados, cuando una década atrás varios aficionados a la fotografía de nuestro pueblo, tuvimos la grata experiencia de exponer nuestras fotos en la sala principal de las instalaciones de dicho lugar.

In recent days, walking through the streets of the town, I ran into a friend whose work is carried out in the "Casa de la Cultura" (the town's Ateneo)... And talking about one thing and the other we ended up remembering days gone by, when a decade ago several photography enthusiasts of our town, had the pleasant experience of exhibiting our photos in the main exhibition hall of the facilities of the aforementioned place.

Eran tiempos mejores y la crisis económica no había golpeado tan profundamente los bolsillos ni los ánimos de todos. Por lo tanto no fue difícil que nosotros mismos financiáramos la impresión de las fotos, su montaje e inclusive las publicaciones, panfletos y trípticos para la promoción de aquella vernácula exposición.

Those were better times and the economic crisis had not hit everyone's pockets and spirits so deeply. Therefore, it was not difficult for us to finance the printing of the photos, their mounting and even the publications, leaflets and brochures for the promotion of that vernacular exhibition.

Conversando con mi amigo concluimos que hoy en día sería bastante complicado repetir aquella experiencia, pues las instalaciones están bastante deterioradas, hay poco personal y obviamente los costos son prohibitivos... Pero también se nos ocurrió que se podía hacer algún tipo de exposición valiéndose de medios digitales mas económicos y factibles en la actualidad. Además es algo que está en boga entre las nuevas generaciones, las cuales serían quizás el objetivo principal de esta iniciativa.

Talking with my friend, we concluded that today it would be quite complicated to repeat that experience, as the facilities are quite deteriorated, there are few personnel and obviously the costs are prohibitive... But it also occurred to us that it would be possible to make some kind of exhibition using more economical and feasible digital media. Besides, it is something that is in vogue among the new generations, who would perhaps be the main target of this initiative.

Y bien, así que en la medida en la que el tiempo lo permita, estamos preparando algunas series de fotografías para presentarlas en pantallas en las instalaciones y también para montar exposiciones virtuales usando algún servicio de hosting.

And so, as time permits, we are preparing some series of photographs to present them on screens in the facilities and also to mount virtual exhibitions using a hosting service.

Esta media docena de fotos que están en esta publicación, son una pequeña muestra de mi colaboración para este incipiente proyecto, cuyo objetivo principal va a ser motivar a los jóvenes de la localidad, la práctica de la fotografía como recurso creativo.

These half a dozen photos that are in this publication, are a small sample of my collaboration for this incipient project, whose main objective will be to motivate the young people of the locality, the practice of photography as a creative resource.

Estamos optando por hacer esto en Blanco y Negro porque consideramos que es una vía para que los jóvenes perciban la posibilidad de dar un paso más allá de la fotografía que ellos hacen cotidianamente con sus dispositivos móviles. La idea es que ellos vean que hay un mundo visual más allá.

We are choosing to do this in Black and White because we consider it a way for young people to perceive the possibility of taking a step beyond the photography they do every day with their mobile devices. The idea is for them to see that there is a visual world beyond.

Consideramos que será una experiencia positiva y quizás nos sirva para encontrar nuevas ideas para impulsar la afición fotográfica entre las generaciones recientes y el público en general. Espero prontamente poder seguir preparando otras series fotográficas y compartirlas. También hacer alguna publicación relativa al proyecto ya hecho.

We believe that it will be a positive experience and perhaps it will help us to find new ideas to promote the photographic hobby among recent generations and the general public. I hope to be able to continue preparing other photographic series and share them soon. Also to make some publication related to the project already done.
