Hace unas semanas que he estado un poco alejado de Hive y, sinceramente, los extraño mucho. No he tenido la oportunidad de sumergirme en los valiosos blogs de mis compañeros, donde siempre aprendo algo nuevo y puedo conocerlos mejor, aunque sea a través de la pantalla.
La universidad me ha tenido atrapado últimamente, ¡parece que no nos dan tregua! Entre exámenes y numerosos seminarios no he tenido ni un segundo libre. ¡Ufff, necesito un descansito!

For the past few weeks, I've been a little distant from Hive and, honestly, I miss you all a lot. I haven't had the chance to dive into my fellow bloggers' valuable posts, where I always learn something new and get to know them better, even if it's through the screen.
University has had me trapped lately, they just don't give us a break! Between exams and numerous seminars, I haven't had a single free second. Phew, I need a little break!
Recientemente, tuve la increíble oportunidad de participar en la LI Jornada Estudiantil Universitaria en el Hospital "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado". Fue un evento fabuloso que reunió a estudiantes ayudantes de todas las especialidades con el objetivo de aportar a la ciencia con investigaciones en sus áreas de estudio. ¡Fue como un festival científico!
Bajo la atenta mirada de nuestros tutores, nos lanzamos a la aventura de llevar adelante proyectos de investigación. Ellos nos guiaron en el complicado mundo de la ciencia y canalizaron nuestra energía fresca y entusiasmo de universitarios desbordantes de ideas.
Tenía en marcha dos proyectos investigativos relacionados con la Caumatología (Quemados), y estaba emocionado de presentarlos en esta jornada llena de aprendizaje y camaradería. Fue realmente fascinante encontrarme rodeado de compañeros apasionados por sus especialidades, compartiendo experiencias, conocimientos y risas.
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the LI University Student Conference at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Hospital. It was a fabulous event that brought together student assistants from all specialties with the goal of contributing to science through research in their respective fields of study. It felt like a scientific festival!
Under the watchful eyes of our mentors, we embarked on the adventure of carrying out research projects. They guided us through the intricate world of science and channeled our fresh energy and enthusiasm as overflowing university students full of ideas.
I had two ongoing research projects related to Caumatology (Burn Medicine), and I was excited to present them at this event filled with learning and camaraderie. It was truly fascinating to find myself surrounded by passionate peers in their respective fields, sharing experiences, knowledge, and laughter.
El evento dio inicio con la acreditación de todos los participantes y la ubicación en los diferentes salones de exposición.
Fue un ambiente acogedor y lleno de buena energía. La conferencia magistral impartida por la profesora María Teresa fue inspiradora. Nos hizo reflexionar sobre la importancia de la innovación y nos animó a adoptar la mentalidad de un investigador intrépido. Nos dio una inyección de oxígeno motivador para seguir en el desarrollo de nuestras habilidades investigativas.
La jornada continuó con un merecido descanso para recargar energías. Hubo un momento de merienda donde nos deleitamos con bebidas refrescantes. Después de todo, un científico también necesita alimentarse bien para mantener su genialidad 😂.
Luego llegó el momento tan esperado: las exposiciones en los diferentes salones. Fue como un desfile de talento científico.
The event began with the accreditation of all participants and their placement in different exhibition rooms.
It was a welcoming environment filled with positive energy. The keynote lecture given by Professor Margarita was inspiring. It made us reflect on the importance of innovation and encouraged us to adopt the mindset of an intrepid researcher. It gave us a motivational boost to continue developing our research skills.
The day continued with a well-deserved break to recharge our energy. There was a snack time where we delighted ourselves with refreshing beverages. After all, a scientist also needs good nourishment to maintain their genius 😂.
Then came the long-awaited moment: the presentations in the various rooms. It was like a parade of scientific talent.
En el primer salón, especializado en las especialidades quirúrgicas, tuve la oportunidad de presentar un trabajo sobre un paciente quemado por un intento suicida que estuvo hospitalizado en la sala de Caumatología clasificado como crítico extremo, según el índice cubano de pronóstico de vida. Caso tan complejo que afortunadamente, tuvo un final feliz.
En el segundo salón, dedicado a las especialidades clínicas, se expusieron numerosos trabajos relacionados con la medicina interna y otras ramas.
Por último, llegamos al tercer salón, donde se presentaban los productos terminados, los artículos originales. En ese espacio, con una mezcla de nervios y emoción, expuse un trabajo descriptivo sobre la caracterización de las complicaciones más frecuentes en pacientes quemados del Hospital "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado". Al final el panel de jurados tuvo algunas críticas contructivas que era parte de la experiencia aprender del intento.
In the first room, specializing in surgical specialties, I had the opportunity to present a study on a patient who had been hospitalized in the Burn Medicine Ward after a suicide attempt. The patient was classified as extremely critical according to the Cuban Life Prognosis Index. It was such a complex case that, fortunately, had a happy ending.
In the second room, dedicated 8to clinical specialties, numerous studies related to internal medicine and other branches were presented.
Lastly, we arrived at the third room, where finished products and original articles were showcased. In that space, with a mix of nerves and excitement, I presented a descriptive study about the characterization of the most common complications in burn patients at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Hospital. In the end, the panel of judges had some constructive criticism, which was part of the learning experience from the endeavor.
Mi novia, que es ayudante en psiquiatría, también tuvo una destacada participación en el estudio sobre el intento de suicidio. Ella también presentó un trabajo independiente sobre la caracterización de los estudiantes fumadores en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Pinar del Río. Tema de crucial importancia por la gran incidencia que existe de este hábito en la etapa universitaria🥳.
Fue una mañana llena de emociones y desafíos. Tuvimos que correr de salón en salón para exponer nuestros proyectos. Al final, ambos terminamos en el salón de cirugía, exponiendo el caso del paciente quemado.
Llegado el momento de las premiaciones, estábamos expectantes todos por los resultados que decidieron el panel de cada salón. Se entregaría premios a los primeros tres lugares de cada salón y con la calificación de relevante, destacado o mención en dependencia del resultado de cada exposición.
My girlfriend, who is an assistant in psychiatry, also had a remarkable participation in the study on suicide attempts. She also presented an independent study on the characterization of smoking students at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Río. This is a crucial topic due to the high incidence of this habit during the university years 🥳.
It was a morning full of emotions and challenges. We had to run from room to room to present our projects. In the end, we both ended up in the surgery room, presenting the case of the burn patient.
When the time for the awards came, we were all eager to hear the results decided by the panel in each room. Prizes would be given to the top three places in each room, with the grades of significant, outstanding, or honorable mention depending on the outcome of each presentation.
Empezaron por el salón de cirugía en donde expusimos el caso del intento suicida y para nuestra sorpresa nos llevamos un premio destacado 🥳🥳🥳. Luego en el salón de artículos originales nos llevamos dos menciones por los trabajos presentados individualmente mi novia y yo👌.

¡Fue una experiencia emocionante y enriquecedora! Compartir conocimientos y vivencias con otros estudiantes de medicina, en un ambiente académico y científico, nos hace sentir parte de un futuro prometedor.
Como dice el refrán, "el conocimiento es poder"...
Así que aquí estoy, lleno de conocimientos y con un espíritu científico renovado. Ahora, solo espero que la universidad me dé un respiro y pueda volver a sumergirme en la maravillosa plataforma de Hive.
We started in the surgery room where we presented the case of the suicide attempt, and to our surprise, we received an outstanding award 🥳🥳🥳. Then, in the room for original articles, both my girlfriend and I received honorable mentions for our individual works👌.
It was an exciting and enriching experience! Sharing knowledge and experiences with other medical students in an academic and scientific environment makes us feel part of a promising future.
As the saying goes, "knowledge is power"...
So here I am, filled with knowledge and a renewed scientific spirit. Now, I just hope that the university gives me a break so that I can dive back into the wonderful Hive platform.
