What Have I Done?
Most of you have no idea what that title means, I am aware. I'll do a little 'splainin before I go on.
@galenkp made a PUBLIC commitment to finish the year with at least 32,500 comments to his credit. He started on August 11 with 26,649 so needs 5,851 more comments by the end of the year.
In a moment of weakness, make that in a moment of extreme weakness, I agreed to join him on his journey. You all know I've been married 3 times and have a serious commitment deficit in my personal life.
I started with 7850 comments and owing to a small mathematical error I committed to doing 2250 comments by the end of the year for a nice round total of 10,100. Yes, I blew it in the old 'carry one' category. Mrs. Deife, my 6th grade teacher would be mortified.
I sat here and figured based on 5.5 months which amounts to about 410 per month to make my goal. That's 100 per week or 15 per day with a few extra on Fridays.
Turns out the actual was 142 days remaining in the year or 16 per day with no additional needed on Friday.
So How Did I Do In September?
I started September with 8376 total comments and ended the month with 9422 comments for a total of 1046 this month.
My original commitment was for a total of 2250 additional comments by the first of the year. I have 1572 comments for the time period so far. It looks like my total commitment is eminently doable. In fact, I should hit that total in October quite easily. Either the year ends on 1 November or I'll have to up my commitment.
Decisions, decisions. What to do?
Against my better judgement I'm going to up my total commitment. I think I can average 1000 comments per month for the duration. In fact, I'll go a little better than that, I will commit to 12,000 total comments on December 31.
That's an average of about 32 per day for the rest of the way. A bit over 1000 per month which I like the sound of.
So now I'd best get to commenting!
So why don't you take a swing at this? You could do as I have, pick some low ball number that you KNOW you can make with ease, or do like GDog and make a ridiculous commitment. The choice is yours, and you can leave your commitment in the comments section, and count it as your first effort toward your goal!
Then just a simple post at the end of each month to share how you are doing and you are set. Make sue you use #comment-commitment as one tag and you are well on the path to glory and riches.
