I came across very inventive inventions while the world is battling covid~19 aka corona virus, and I want to show a few of them to you in blogs i am making now. Some are Dutch but this is form a young lady from America. It is a piece from People Magazine.
The Kentucky college student Ashley is getting crafty when it comes to helping the hearing-impaired community through the coronavirus. She is amazing , i saw a message on People Magazine and I wanted to share.
Ashley Lawrence, who is 21, just like my oldest is studying education for the deaf and hard of hearing, and knows the importance of face visibility for those who rely on lip reading or ASL to communicate. This is a well known fact in our society and thats why we Dutch have a person doing sign language with all the important stuff coming from our king or prime minister Rutte. With that in mind Ashley, began creating reusable fabric masks that feature a clear plastic piece over the wearer’s mouth so that their lips are still visible. I think that is so cool.
These are for anyone who uses speech reading, lip reading, anybody like that, and people who are profoundly deaf who use sign language as their primary mode of communication, it is very big on facial expressions and it is part of the grammar.” To be understood! Ashley explained on a GoFundMe page that she plans to make and distribute the masks free of charge to anyone who needs them, including those who are not sick now but may be in the future so that they can have it on hand to give to their doctor.
The student and her mother have been working on the project together, making their first two or three sets at home out of bed sheets and plastic fabric. How cool is that!! In trying times things are thought of and people get very creative. I am all for it. Let’s devellop our asses off with new inventions for the future.
She arranged the GoFundMe to help offset the cost of materials and shipping, though after raising $3,387, she announced that she’d met her goal and would no longer be accepting donations. All extra money raised will be donated to the nonprofit Hands & Voices, she said, and anyone who wants to order one can do so at dhhmaskproject@gmail.com. Wow what is fantastic and I wish Ashley a bright career in producing and selling special masks.
I wanted to do this blog aswell because this mask has another positive great thing about it. Its in time when people arent allowed to have their family with them and they are going to the end of their life the masks are less frightening, you can see the facial expression and a smile so desperately needed in these difficult times. So that smile will hopefully give some relief. Also when people recover they say that not seeing a smile once a day made it so hard.Again a great invention and well thought off.
Thanks for stopping by, its appreciated and remember Focus on Being creative instead of being bee-zy.
