It's good to have goals.
We all work differently; some prefer absolute spontaneity, I have have come to realize that I work best when I have firm and defined objectives. Gives me purpose and meaning, I suppose. Keeps me from "falling asleep at the wheel."
Didn't always used to be that way; even just ten years ago, I used to — quite openly — characterize myself as a "Creative Slacker," which basically served as a way to give myself "permission" to eternally drift along with not much of a plan in life.

Time... Inevitably Passes
So, yesterday, I talked a bit about wanting to focus on "social blogging" again. And that this "Fork to Hive" seems to present itself as a natural break point for starting new projects; new processes; new directions.
Then I got to thinking about the rewards and of the equation... because — as we all know — "we're only here for the money...!"
Yeah, yeah... the key (usually overlooked) word there is "ONLY." The money is — and always was — maybe 4th or 5th on my list of "why I am putting effort into this."
Far above the money is my desire to have a reliable long term home for my writing. I feel a little more reassured of that, now that "Hive Is Alive!" My "DIS-ease" surrounding Steem since the February 14th mostly arose from the uncertainty.
Some years back — during my "Creative Slacker" years — I would probably just have shrugged and gone whatever..., but the passing of time of time has changed my way of viewing life.

Building for the Future — Here for the LONG Haul!
Anyway, now that I feel more reassured that (a) three years worth of writing content has been "secured" and (b) Hive presents an opportunity to continue building towards the future, I have determined that my efforts here will represent (at least in my mind) an opportunity to continue exploring my writing, with the REWARD being that I can have a sort of "forced 'drip' savings account."
Which is basically long-winded speak for intending to just keep staking most of any rewards I might gain with a two-pronged approach: treating my growing Hive Power as an ongoing long-term investment plan (more than 5 years, hopefully!).
Not sure what these are called, but it's a flowering bush by our driveway...
Ideally, we would still be here, and it would have grown to become worth something by the time I get to my mid-60's and beyond, and Mrs. Denmarkguy and I can perhaps travel a bit more.
As for the liquid rewards, I will out some of them into "savings" to have on hand primarily as a small "Oh Shit! Fund" but also to save for "specific things" we need to buy... or I may power them up. Time will tell.
Of course, it's all uncertain... as we all are well aware of, the world of cryptocurrencies can be pretty volatile! But at least I have made a plan.

Benchmarking and Checking Progress
Reading back over this, it all sounds rather formal, doesn't it?
It brings to mind something I learned in during therapy, back in the mid-1990's: Sometimes the only way to make changes for the better in our lives is to create a sort of "Contract With Yourself."
Maybe that's really what I am doing here.
And since the blockchain provides an "immutable record," I am also going to make the "deal" with myself to come back quarterly and post a brief "progress update."
Not because that makes for an interesting blog post, but because it will — in some way — "keep me honest" and accountable to myself.
And if you're a super organized "Type-A" numbers person, I'm sure none of this makes sense to you! But for a mostly creative and rather lackadaisical person like me? Nothing ever really gets done, unless I take this kind of approach.
