It was my birthday today. 61... and counting!
I don't feel like someone standing on the threshold of "Old Fart-hood." In fact, I don't feel "an age," at all.
Cake! And yes, we do love our cats around here... (photo by @cosmictriage)
There wasn't a party... because these are the times in which we live.
But there was cake, and that was awesome!
To be honest, birthdays were never that much of a "big deal" to me, even when I was a kid. I remember the highlight of birthdays when I was little wasn't so much that there were presents, but the fact that I got to choose what we were going to eat.
Mostly, I don't really remember any of my birthdays. The only "big" birthday I remember was my 21st... and only because it was really unusual.
I actually spent my 21st birthday primarily onboard a 747 from London to Houston, Texas (about a 10 1/2 hour flight)... on my way back to University in Austin for the start of the fall semester.
I'd managed to wrangle an exit door seat (the kind where you actually have about 6 feet of open space in front of you); the other passenger in the row of three was a young woman about my age.
Well, it turned out that it was also her birthday... and her dad was evidently some kind of bigwig because all of a sudden a custom prepared FIRST CLASS meals for two arrived, along with a bottle of champagne!
It has been 40 years, and I've periodically wondered how come two special meals showed up when it was just her, but some of life's small unexplained mysteries are best left to the realm of "magic."
Earlier today, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I were talking a bit about the game changing things we've "seen," in our short visit to this planet... computers, cell phones, the Internet... and now blockchain tech and cryptocurrencies. Life keeps us in a constant state of wonder... I'm glad I am not "too old" to still be part of what's unfolding!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!
