About a week ago I was playing around with my camera and whilst on the hunt for something suitable to photograph I came across a few cologne's I had in the cupboard which all remained unopened. I decided to make use of them and snapped a few pictures including the one you see below of BLV by BVLGARI which is a pretty legit scent to be honest, masculine and sophisticated, and one I like a lot. But this post isn't about that one.
The BLV, and the other two, remain unopened despite having been given to me quite some time ago. I'm rather simple in nature and tend to stick to the things I know generally and so I've been using using Polo Blue and Safari, both by Ralph Lauren, for a long time, interchanging them with my mood and the situation at hand; I've had no complaints - Well, none voiced to my face anyway, so I assume the fragrances are not offensive.

BVLGARI BLV:
BLV pour Homme is fresh, woody-spicy fragrance. Ginger, as a main note in both BLV pour Femme and BLV pour Homme, is harmonized with the velvety and silkier note of tobacco blossom. The fresh and spicy beginning with cardamom and sandalwood gradually evolves into the lovely blend of ginger, juniper and galanga. The base is warm and woody due to ginkgo, grey teak and tobacco flower. It was created by Alberto Morillas in 2001.
Whilst playing around with the shots, which I don't edit with a photo editor because I have no clue how to use one, I was thinking about one of my all-time favourite fragrances, one I haven't actually owned for a very long time. I don't know why to be truthful, I just used up the last bit and never got any more for a long, long time. I'd say almost twenty years. It made me curious and so I poked around online and found that it's still available - I went ahead and bought it, the one you see below, which arrived a day ago - No I haven't opened it yet, I'm not sure when that will happen.
Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren, my new-old cologne
The fragrance was released around 1994 and is, as the name suggested, a fragrance based around an active lifestyle. It has a distinctly aromatic, fresh scent and energises with its crisp but woody tone - It epitomised who I was back in the day.
It was developed by Henry Fremont and incorporates citrus and aquatic notes ensuring it lands squarely in the fresh category on the fragrance wheel. It doesn't end there though as it has top-notes of floral through lavender and others and middle through geranium, jasmine and so on, meaning as the fragrance matures on the skin over the day or night it changes - It keeps giving I guess, like I do.
When I wear it, when I did in the past, I felt fresh, invigorated and kind of up-beat to be completely honest about it. The fragrance suited my very active life which at the time revolved around playing a full-contact sport and this fragrance seemed to fit in with that lifestyle quite nicely. It was always in my gear-bag and after games I'd shower and spray a little on; Win, lose or draw it simply punctuated my life and all that I was about.

Polo Sport:
Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren is a Aromatic Green fragrance for men. Polo Sport was launched in 1994. Top notes are Mint, Aldehydes, Lavender, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Lemon, Artemisia and Neroli; middle notes are Seagrass, Ginger, Jasmine, Geranium, Cyclamen, Rose and Brazilian Rosewood; base notes are Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Guaiac Wood and Amber.
Life always moves forward, that's the nature of it, and I'll never be able to reclaim the confidence I felt in those years of playing a sport that battered and bruised me, broke things and prompted operations; Trust me I would if I could because I was good at it and that gave me confidence. It was all-encompassing and I enjoyed every minute, although the painful times weren't as fun as the others I can assure you.
I was fairly young and hadn't done most of the terrible things I would do later in life and it was simple, far more simple than my life now...This cologne, Polo Sport was there through it all and, if I can be quite open with you, I'm looking forward to spraying a little on, never too much mind you, just enough to allow my body heat to help it develop and to bring back memories of some very happy moments of my life when I was but a young man with few cares and worries to furrow my brow.
I'm a much different man these days; More mature, far more confident in some ways and far less in others; I'm more humble and kind, more open to admit my mistakes, to say sorry and mean it and to care more deeply for others than I do myself. On the flip-side I'm more edgy by nature, intense is how some describe me if they are close enough to see it, which most are not. I suppose one could say I'm rather multi-faceted and so I think that entitles me to wind the clock back a little and go old-school with this fragrance.
Does the now-version of me match my new-old fragrance? Hmm, I'm not sure if it matters because I make me, not my fragrance or clothes, the job I have, money I earn or hobbies, the cars I drive, places I shop...No, I'm me and that needs to be good enough - For some it will be, for the rest, it doesn't matter.
Few will ever have the chance to get close enough to smell my neck, or see me for who I really am, but whomever may will be best-placed to catch the scent of Polo Sport and maybe then tell me if my fragrance matches me or not.
How about you, Do you have a favourite, one you used a while back and would like to find again? Have you ever had a fragrance that you felt matched your personality the way I feel Polo Sport did mine? Feel free to comment.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind
