Here we are and it's nearly August already. Does anyone else feel like the time has been flying by since this whole world fiasco began?
It was somewhat noticeable until today. Now it's slamming me in the face like a prize fighter. Why is that? Because today I had to run to the kids' Pediatrician (Dr.) to pick up their immunization forms.
It's time to get both boys registered for school and they change districts this year. Not only does our eldest son change districts, he also enters Highschool. Although, I'm not sure what matriculation looks like via Zoom.
No Frosh Orientation?
I was telling my son Devin just how sad it was that he would miss the wonderful days of Freshman Orientation. Chances are it's not even called that anymore and I'm unknowingly using a derogatory term.
I do hear that kids are very good at cyber-bullying these days, so maybe Devin isn't better off. As a freshman in Highschool, I already stood 6'1" and was very active in sports. No one really messed with me that much.
Devin will likely be six foot tall in another month when school begins and he has a bigger frame than I did at his age. Size doesn't matter much with cyber-bullying, or does it? Who knows? And hopefully Devin doesn't have to find out.
A New District & A New IEP for Logan
As we have moved from Oceanside, Logan also has to make the switch to a Carlsbad school. He's entering 8th grade and is on a different learning path than most kids.
Logan's mind works a bit different than the standard brain and his development takes extra care. He's worked hard through his Autism and ADD with the help of some great teachers in Oceanside.
If you're not familiar, an IEP is an Individual Learning Plan. All his teachers, the school psychologist, Dean, and Principle help create the IEP. Logan has made strides beyond anything his IEP had anticipated.
Just this past week, he read aloud a story from Creepy Pasta off his phone to us. It was long and used words at a College level. Logan barely skipped a beat and read with so much confidence it blew my mind. My wife was stunned.
And Logan has spent the summer, as we have done in the past, without his medication. His voice has dropped low in its tone and we laugh at his old high-pitched voice on my wife's ringtone! 🤣🤣
And The Days Keep Flying By
Usually by this time of the summer, we'd have at least made a couple fishing trips to the beach. Not so this year. I missed the small window of opportunity between Covid lockdowns.
Now it's back to working at home for my wife while my job in the construction industry continues. You can stop some people from working but you can't stop progress in the USA.
Both my wife and I work in different fields of real estate. She gets leads for real estate agents while I build their foundations! 🤣🤣
We are blessed during these times and we are also both extremely busy. That has played a part in making time fly so fast, I think. But the lockdown from doing anything fun (like fishing, concerts, or theme parks) has played a greater role.
Making Sense Of It All
I'm not really trying to. That header just seemed like a good way to finish off this post and bring it all together.
My trip to the kid's doctor went well though I was unprepared for the seriousness of it. Luckily, my wife had called ahead so I simply called them from their doorway.
The nurse handed me the forms through the employee door and I never had to go in. Otherwise, they would have put me through the whole gamut of personal inspection before allowing me in.
Good riddance to Covid as soon as possible and I pray China slaps some regulations on their marketplaces. For crying out loud! I sure as hell don't want to continue this way any longer than absolutely necessary.
Thanks for reading and as always...
