Sometimes, sleep is so illusive, like fog on a hillside,
Drifting by just out of reach. It comes and it goes,
But doesn't ever settle in and reside.
So we get up for a while, then
Try again... to repose.

So, I've been trying to wean myself off most of the meds I've
Been on for so many years. The list is rather long.
Since one of the conditions I was prescribed these pain meds
For is "Degenerative Disk Disease" (which ain't ever going away)
[nor is it going to be better], I've just been dutifully taking
The Tramadol (synthetic opioid) for years
(that is for pain, I guess it helps, but I'm still in pain all the time)
Along with Baclofen
(that is a muscle relaxer, because of the spasms due to pinched nerves)
I also have scripts for antidepressants, which make one gain weight.
I was/am still depressed most of the time, so I've stopped those.
I have a script for "Xanax" (alprazolam) which was nice, it helped me stay
"LEVEL" and not get quite so angry over small stuff, but then
I found out that long term usage is linked to early onset dementia.
Well thanks a LOT "Veterans Administration Health System"
Since all I've BEEN taking for a week or so
(BP meds, vitamins, Benadryl for sleep), I suppose I am in some
Degree of WITHDRAWAL because I've had several night where I just
Simply

Could

not fall
ASLEEP!!

I would end up rising, eating, and finally taking a pain med/xanax.
Last night was one of those nights.
On my third trip to the kitchen, I saw my first roach
IN THE KITCHEN, in ANY of my apartments since moving out on my own.

THIS one was in my living room
I've seen them (just a few) in the bathroom, a couple of
largish, but obviously sick and dying examples have been
Found in my living room recently.
So now, I must finish getting ready, head over to my niece's house,
Wash a bunch of laundry, then I shall come back and clear my counters,
Wash everything, spray a minimum of pesticide, let it dry then
Put everything back in place.
All together, I am rather proud that I've kept my place relatively
Free of bugs all this time.
New day, new year, new apartment.
"A learning experience."
