HELLO HIVE
You might ask me this question: Does spacing really matter in maize cultivation? Well, it does unless you don't want to maximize your yield.
When I was young, going to the farm with my dad, I always felt bad whenever I saw my dad thinning out maize plants.
It looked more like wastage cause I believed that the more maize in a hole, the bigger the harvest, but when I grew up on the job, I got more understanding year after year. Now I fully grasp what is going on.
You don't learn about things like this by mouth because you might not believe what was taught to you but if you experiment yourself you get to see the angle we are coming from
✂️ Why Thinning Is So Important
Sometimes we plant more seeds in a single hole cause we know it is highly unlikely to have perfect growth, so to be on the safe side, it is best to plant more, and then we can reduce it when it has grown a bit.
For cases of unequal growth, thinning goes a long way to fix things, separating those that have grown from the others.
👨🏽🌾 My Process: Using My Hands, Not Tools
The best tool for me is my hands 🤣 I can easily control what I am doing using my hands rather than any machine. This process is very delicate cause we are dealing with the root of the plant, and any mistake could sabotage the growth of other maize we are planning to leave behind.
Make sure to thin your maize. The moment there are more than 3 in a single hole, it helps increase yield a lot.
