Hello Hive,
Not too long ago, I narrated to us about how i dabbled into cultivating the ridges in my garden on a late planting season all alone, and by myself. Yet there was another little space in my compound i also supposed to have turned to a planting space.... Because where we live has one little space and other little spaces. We had overtime overlooked the spaces as nothing but myself being in hive and in this my amazing community of homesteaders, i realized that every space around my home was as cultivable and as important as bigger farm lands.
No one knows the actual naturally fertilized soil and what any soil can actually produce when cultivated on, whether more than the others or not, until the soil is applied into usage and planted upon.
As a late planted space too, i enged on it by asking a teenager playing football in the neighborhood with his friends; i called him out by his name ...
The little space i decided to plant on recently.
hemmm, heeh, boy, come, can you be able to make some ridges for me in that our little space by the house, i asked him?
He replied... uhh, that will be by tomorrow, " i will also call up my younger brother to join me do it,, i said, that's okay by me... I left.
Early the next morning, both of them came to our house knocking. I came out followed them to the space for their own inspection and possibly to negotiate about their charges.
You know already, both of them live in my neighborhood and they know that it's a little space. After their proper inspections of the space, they told me their price, i bargained about it, they insisted on their own price for their easy sharing, maybe 🤠, i then agreed with them...., okay, i said, when do you intend to start i asked?. Both of them said, " we are starting off in the evening, approximately by 5 pm. I said okay, but make sure you keep to that, okay, And they left....., me too left.
By exactly 5 pm, here they came and started off immediately as i desired... I was very happy it was happening. Remember that, children are now on their second term holiday, many of them are just around playing football and other games, so i used this opportunity to engage these two brothers meaningfully. They did some that day, very early the next day, they resumed and finished it up quite on time....
The work is on going seriously.....
This made me so happy, wow oooo, my ridges are made ooo, i felt good in my heart. There and then, i started planting my seeds because it was already a late planting as i assumed...
I choose to plant here only cassava stems and sweet potatoes. This is my very first time to plant sweet potatoes in my garden, ever. I thought to myself, let me change my planting pattern to see or know how they will come out at harvest.
These are my germinated sweet potatoe plants growing happily.....😂.
Boooom, here, are my cassava stems growing beautifully fine getting ready to bearing some bountiful cassava root crops for garri, tapioca, and fufu, after like one year old or more...
And my first time planted crop.., sweet potatoes are equally growing up very fast and very fine, i can't wait to harvest them at their maturity... I love all these.
I decided to share with us, the part 11 of my late planting season as i said in my earlier blog post...
Just have a look at them all and see how far i have been able to accomplish what i love doing... Homesteading!!
My newly planted cassava stems growing fine, 💕.
Remarks,
Planting of crops, in any space around your house will go a very long way to help you achieve some levels of family and kitchen comfort. Like me now, i do not buy some kitchen needed items like pumpkin leaves, bitter leaves, water leaves, chilli peppers, and some times okra. This is really helpful, and shaping my kitchen with surplus of many food items, and I'm at peace with that.
Thank you everyone for your presence on my blog post, i appreciate you all.
