You might have wondered how groundnut farmers recognize that the groundnut planted months back is already close to or due for harvest. Well, certain non-negotiable signs come every one of its cycles, depicting a plant that is close to fruitfulness.
Now this post will be an eye-opener for new farmers as well as old farmers who still struggle with identifying when it is time for harvest.
"Groundnut plants produce flowers twice before reaching maturity, and recognizing both flowering stages is crucial for farmers. These flowers serve as important indicators in the plant’s growth cycle, helping you determine when the crop is approaching harvest."
The first flowering usually occurs about a month or two after planting, but in my experience, it doesn't carry as much weight as the second. Once the second flowering begins, however, it’s a clear signal that harvest time is approaching and that’s when serious preparations should start.
You wouldn't want to be caught unawares on a work as significant as this, preparation needs to be done ahead of time, the first flowering that I am experiencing is currently calling my attention to the need to weed the grass on the farm as it is obstructing the groundnut and it has to be done now to prevent a lot of damage, who knows what the next flowering will be pointing at probably the need to get sacks and added hands cause harvesting groundnut manually will need a lot of hands.
🌱 How do you personally identify when your groundnut crop is ready for harvest have you spotted any unique signs beyond flowering?
