Hello Hive
It is very important to avoid the use of herbicides in certain crops even when the manufacturers states that they have produced certain selective chemicals(herbicide) are manufactured for such purpose.
I can remember how we experimentally applied some selective herbicide to our groundnuts this year, a portion of the growing plant got burnt and withered off along side the grasses and I was glad that we didn't apply the herbicides to the entire farm. By now it would have been a huge loss for us. We decided to experiment the use of the newly introduced chemical by applying it to a very small portion of our farm at first before noticing how the plant reacted negatively to the chemicals.
Now that groundnuts are at their flowering stage flowering stage they do not need any harsh treatments with chemicals and they are at the point where proper care must be giving to these plants. This is the first and most likely the final weeding we will be doing for this groundnuts farm. Just in case you desire to ease your work labour especially with the weeding task. It is advisable to apply herbicides to the farm right after the cultivation of the land and at the planting of the Groundnuts before the nuts even begin to germinate.
If you are lucky to have a properly cultivated land in which all the grasses have been well buried in the ridges, having grasses germinated real quick to interfere with the growth of the plant is often not a common sight. But in the absence of such it is advisable to apply herbicides at the times when they will not be in contact with our planted crops especially when the crops is a fragile one like peanuts.
At this stage of growth, only annual weeding can be carried out on the farm which we have been doing lately. And if we get lucky with these, now new grasses will grow as fast as possible to catch up with this much grown plant and to hinder or interfere with its growths.
From first flowering stage, will take another full month to witness the second flowering stage before we can think about harvest.
Aside groudnuts there are certain vegetables that are very much weak and cannot endure yhe skightest use of herbicided on them. These herbicdes xan directly kill ghe veggies or have a a negative inpact on yhe health of consumers. We must watch out for the types of plants/crops we apply Herbicides on.
