A beautiful morning to all my friends and family here. It's a new month, new energy, vitality and enthusiasm to keep thriving and pursuing our goals. Know that success is not a destination and with every height we attain there is still more to go. No wonder some persons have paraphrased a particular statement and have it to say now that the sky is is not our limit of success but our starting point. Our success and possibilities are unlimited if we can channel our energy in the right direction.
Good morning once again to Hive Blockchain and the beautiful souls here, I feel excited and motivated this morning by singular reason of been alive hale and hearty and the grace to be able to continue chasing my dreams and life's goals.
Here is a lesson a fellow farmer have learnt the hard way. It was a very sad experience yesterday when we opened up his sacs of stored grains only to realize that the grains have all gone bad having been infected by weevils.
Weevils borrow holed into the grains, make an abode for themselves making it very irritating for people to eat grains with insects still in them. He has stored this grains since last year and has been careless about how to do this properly.
There are various methods we often use to store harvested grains.
Some of the best practices of the natural way to do is first characterized by early harvest and then the use of natural substances to preserve the grains.
Whenever early harvest of grains is carried out, it makes it difficult for weevils to invade grains right before storage. Sometimes the weevils that attacks crops in storage often penetrate these crops during harvest and as soon as those grains get stored the weevils in them begin to multiply until they overshadow the plant.
Early harvest is vital to curb the effect of weevils invasion before harvest.
Right after harvest, processing of grains should be carried out then storage can hence be done almost immediately. Now my neighbor has harvested his grains and didn't process them since last year. Processing involves peeling beans from its peel and winnowing them just like rice. He has stored some of the grains without processing them and the consequences is how that weevils penetrated the pods and damaged the grains within.
Now that he has choosing to take care of the stored grains they are badly damaged already.
Natural way to store grains is by addition of very hot chilli pepper and any other ingredients you believe and know that it can cause an environment to be uncomfortable for the multiplication of weevils.
After this is added we can choose to pour the grains in a nylon bag before storing them in sacs or preferably one can make use of empty cans
The children are here processing harvested grains from last year, pounding and winnowing to separate grains from shaft.
Even after this storage precautions it is expected that we do a regular checkup on stored grains and if any sign of weevils are sighted we can retrieve grains from storage, clean them up and restore back. None of these criteria was followed and now only regret filled my neighbor for neglecting go do the right thing.
This particular beans is no longer marketable which has constituted some losses for him and even for consumption it will be a little irritating to eat beans with weevils in them.
