Hello Hive
Here is how one of our rice field looks like and after which our grains have been planted we are now bothered about keeping away birds and rodents that will attack germinating seedlings.
I didn't go to church today, the migraines won't allow me and the weather was very cold this morning. I had to stay indoors all morning and was only able to go out now.
The farm being close to the house we just walk by to while away time and realized that we can actually plant disc tape and sticks which makes a lot of noise when the wind blows on them to act as scarecrow.
It was an easy task and not we were done in just few mins
Most times I prefer that we plant our rice grains in withered grasses right after applying chemicals. This will conceal the grains until they germinate.
This was exactly what we carried out in our field here and even had some labourers join us in the planting exercise. I am very much certain that by the time we would be in farm tomorrow, our grains will have germinated pretty well.
Now there is one basic and important reason why we sometimes chose to clear a portion of the field like this and plant our grains in open fields.
Some grasses are pretty much stubborn and will germinate and regrow right after you believe that they are dead and have gone ahead plant seeds in them.
Using a clear field methods, keeps our field completely clear of grasses as you can see. The field is cultivated after applying chemicals to kill the grasses. For this method grasses often do not germinate early enough to catch up with planted grains. The only challenge is how we need to keep seedlings safe.
For this other method of planting in wildered weeds you have to apply chemicals right after planting. This is applied a second time to keep the weeds away. It is now a choice of either you apply chemicals twice or you cultivate the land and make it clean.
The major things that often interfere with plant growth is weeds and weather. Even though we cannot have control over the weather, we can at least do all it takes to keep away weeds.
We have to think twice and make the right decisions for each of our farms on which method of propagation of the grains will be best for each particular land location.
