Hello hivers!!
Welcome to my blog..
So, today I had to think of a way to get more containers that will be holding the black soldier fly larvae.
The more the larvae increases in size the need more space so they can easily feed well and grow better in a short time.
The less food there eat, the longer time it takes for them to grow bigger in size and the earlier the turn to pre-pupae.
Allowing them turn into pre-pupae early when there haven’t fed enough isn’t good, because when they eventually turn to pupae and emerge as fly, there don’t eat anymore, there rely on the fat deposit there had stored up during their larvae stage and if there don’t feed well, there Wont store up enough fats that will see them through the pupa stage and during their fly stage.
And this might cause several problems like the fly dying very early immediately the emerge as fly without mating.
So, the more food the eat and grow bigger before turning to pupae, the more their survivability rate increases .
I had to think of a way to improvise because getting plastic containers were quite expensive and wasn’t in my budget.
So, I thought of getting a plank and saw it 4inch a pieces. I now cut them, to 1ft by 1.5ft so that it can for into the holding bay.
I used fish feed bag to cover the inside, while the wood served as support.
This really helped a lot as I was running out of space to keep the larvae.
