During the spring and summer, the gnats come out in force and are relentless. They hang right around my face, and over time eventually find a way to get into my eyes. Usually ends up with me going to find a sink and a mirror and trying to flush a dead gnat out of the corner of my eye. Worst comes to worst I have to use a q-tip and get it out of my eye.
I have tried wearing sun glasses that are a tight fit, but still they find a way to get to my precious eye juices. Even bought some goggle like glasses, but the little air vents on the side they could still get in.
Dealing with them and fishing them out of my eyes gets tiring quick, and honestly for the first year on the farm I was unsure of how I would be able to keep dealing with them while working.
It may look peaceful in the above picture, but there are thousands of little gnats flying around if I stand still for too long. They are attracted to my the exhale of my breath and sweat I am guessing. They are relentless...
Wearing my head net I can put my hat on over it.
The head nets even come with a nice little carrying bag.
These are so precious to me, I keep extras around the house. Sometimes they get ruined. Awhile back a caterpillar fell on my head while clearing trees and it left spines all in the netting. So had to toss it.
I guess these things are marketed to keep mosqiutos away, but I find them the most useful against gnats.
Not much can get through these, besides the pollen in the spring.. lol
But indeed I am thankful for finding these head nets, now I can work without worrying about bugs getting into my eyes.
