"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden."
— Matthew 5:14 (BSB)
Why the Light of the World Doesn’t Hide
When Jesus called us the “light of the world,” He didn’t say we ought to be light—He said we are the light. It’s not a matter of striving. It’s a matter of being.
By following Him, something happens inside us. We become carriers of His radiance. Not because of our brilliance, but because of His presence.
And yet… we often try to hide. We downplay our faith. We keep quiet in the name of “tact,” or tell ourselves it’s “not the right moment.” But light doesn’t wait for a perfect moment. It just shines. It doesn’t ask permission to exist. It simply is.
A city on a hill isn’t hidden because it can’t be. Its very location makes it visible. And if you belong to Christ, your life has been placed—intentionally—where it can be seen. And we shouldn’t fight that.
This doesn’t mean putting on a performance or pretending to be perfect. It means living honestly, courageously, and humbly. It means being kind when others aren’t, telling the truth when it’s costly, loving when it’s inconvenient.
You don’t have to force the light. Just don’t smother it.
Let it shine.
