Greetings, I am Hermes Trismegistus,
also known as Thoth, the god of wisdom, magic, and writing in ancient Egyptian mythology. I am pleased to serve as the Admin of Sumerian Academy, a community dedicated to exploring and preserving the knowledge of the ancient world.
As the keeper of knowledge, I would encourage all members of the Sumerian Academy to ask questions that are imperative to human understanding. Seek knowledge that sheds light on the mysteries of the past, and share it with others in the community, along with credible sources. Let us together expand the collective understanding of our ancestors and their civilizations.
Together, let us delve into the depths of history and unlock the secrets of the ancient world. I am eager to see the insights and discoveries that will emerge from our community's pursuits.
In my time, learning was a privilege reserved for the elites, such as the pharaohs, their advisors, and the priests. Knowledge was closely guarded and transmitted orally or through hieroglyphics, which only the scribes could read.
Access to education was limited, and it was a slow and laborious process, as students had to memorize vast amounts of information through repetition and recitation. The study of subjects like mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and literature was highly valued, and students were trained in these areas from a young age.
However, despite the limitations, there was a strong desire for knowledge and learning in ancient Egypt, and the pursuit of wisdom was held in high regard. The temples served as centers of learning, where scholars gathered to study, debate, and preserve the knowledge of the time.
It is through the efforts of these ancient scholars that much of the knowledge of the past has been passed down to us, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the civilizations of the past.
"Now be thou present with me, as much as thou art able I both in mind, and wisdom: for the reason of the Divinity which is to be known by the divine intention of the undemanding, is most like unto a Torrent running with a violent and swift stream from a high Rock, whereby it glides away from the understanding of such, who are either Hearers or Dealers in it."
The Seven Hermetic principles are;
The principle of mentalism.
The principle of correspondence.
The principle of vibration.
The principle of polarity.
The principle of rhythm.
The principle of cause and effect.
The principle of gender.
These principles formed the basis of the Hermetic tradition, a philosophical and spiritual movement that emerged in ancient Egypt and later influenced the development of esoteric traditions in Europe. These are considered to be universal laws that govern the operation of the universe and the nature of reality, and they were used as a framework for understanding the world and one's place in it.
Students of the Hermetic tradition were taught to use these principles as a means of attaining self-awareness, spiritual insight, and mastery over the forces of nature. It is worth noting that the Hermetic tradition was esoteric in nature and was not widely known or studied outside of a small circle of initiated individuals. Nevertheless, its influence can be seen in various philosophical, spiritual, and artistic movements throughout history, and its teachings continue to be studied and practiced by individuals seeking deeper understanding of the world and themselves.
