The 4 - 3 loss to Chelsea yesterday was a miserable affair. Spurs went up 2-0 and were cruising then Romero who is just back from injury got injured yet again and it was a downhill spiral from that moment. Ange Postecoglou's is on thin ice at the moment but I have to say that I have seen glimpses of excellence and like all the top managers such as Pep at Man City , Klopp at Liverpool , they need a couple of years to bed in their ideas. I think this is what Ange needs. More time to get in his own players and more time to prove to people that his style of play can cut it in the Premier League.
Many pundits are calling Ange out for having no plan B or not changing his playing style or tactics in different games. The media are actually hounding him about this and the question comes up in the press conference every time from different national media but the answer is always the same. Ange will not change his playing style and he would rather be sacked. Spurs are very entertaining to watch but for a Spurs fan we are also very frustrating. The positive thing is that we know what are style is unlike some other teams in the Premiership. United have been trying to find an identity for years even to an extent where Ten Hag had to sacrifice his playing style on a number of occasions. Arsenal have turned into some kind of dead ball specialists that are hard to beat but cannot score from open play. Something like Pullis's Stoke or Dykes Burnley. This is not a criticism but a fact. Now I do not want my team to play like Arsenal are playing now. A Premiership title is not worth this. I want to be entertained.
Spurs had 4 years of Mourinho, a short Nunez spell, and then Conte and the football was terrible. So much so that Spurs fans were crying out to be entertained. Win now was not all it was cracked up to be and the football was terrible. With Ange the football is entertaining but the results may not always go our way and this is what happened with Chelsea yesterday. As soon as Chelsea came out in the second half the tide went in their favour. Now on saying that Chelsea did not beat Tottenham yesterday. It was Tottenham that beat Tottenham. Giving away 2 stupid penalties. Bissouma on his day is excellent but he has no brains. He lost the ball yesterday and in an effort to retrieve it he went head long into a challenge which was a penalty. Carragher caused him brain dead and I tend to agree. This has not been the first time it has happened. Cole Palmer converted the penalty which gave Chelsea the lead. Then another penalty given away from Papa Sarr, again silly penalty as the Chelsea player was playing for it. We don't half make things hard for ourselves. During Pepe's first year at city he said that it was impossible to improve as a team if individual mistakes are the cause of your woes. This is exactly what it was like yesterday. It was not Ange's fault that Sarr and Bissouma are a pair of numptys. Not at all. These were individual player mistakes which they should not be making. The manager cannot change this and this is ultimately what happened yesterday. We is on a bad run. But Rangers on Thursday night and Southampton on Sunday will turn things around. Results are needed here or I would fear for Ange's job.
Historically when the fans turn on Levy then Levy throws a manager under the bus to keep the heat off him. Levy probably knows what we know here and will hold off on Ange but there are managers under Levy that were sacked for less. One of them is Nunez Espiritez Santos who is now flying high with Nottingham Forest. Ange has the backing but if results keep going south then Levy will have to make a call. It will not come to this in my opinion but the ice is getting thinner on the ground and results are going to have to get better. Who would have thought I would be saying this after our 4 - nil throuncing of Man City a couple of weeks previously. Eaten bread is long forgotten. In the Premier League your last result is what matters and the Man City and Man United game are long forgotten. With the cup game against Man United coming up in 11 days time , it will be a good review of where both clubs are at. Man United did not have their manager bounce yet. It just has not happened yet an identity is forming and I do think Amorim will do well in time but hopefully not this season. The next three games are crucial for Ange. With Van Der Vien not as injured as first thought , he will need to start against Southampton at least. It can only get better from here on out with injuries. January is fast approaching and Spurs will have to dip their toe in the cut throat January window. It is not a want at this stage but a need.
