Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. So one of the stories in the transfer market which I have been following, but this will be the first post about it because I was expecting there would have been a solution by now. Viktor Gyökeres' story has been one to watch since the start of the transfer window, and by now, I thought he would have left Sporting CP, but that is not the case, as things have become complicated for the player this summer.
Gyökeres was astonishing last season as he was on top of his game. The Swedish international was even in the race for the European Golden Boot, which tells you how impactful this guy was for Sporting last season. Before the season ended, it was clear from Viktor Gyökere's part that he would not be continuing his career at Sporting CP in the coming season, as he wants to try a new chapter in his career. Viktor Gyökeres was assured that he would leave the club this summer, but this plan has not yet been followed through with. Sporting CP president made the deal with Arsenal complicated.
Arsenal have been the front-runners to sign Gyökeres this summer with other clubs keen on signing the Swedish player, but Viktor Gyökeres has only given priority to Arsenal as he wants the move to the English club. Personal terms have already been settled between Gyökeres and Arsenal, but what remains is the club-to-club negotiation to progress into the final stages, which has not been happening for the past week. There has been back and forth this past week as some will report that Arsenal and Sporting CP have reached an agreement, then the next deal reports will say the deal is nowhere near closed.
Sporting asked for a fee of 63.5 million euros, plus 10 million euros add-ons to seal the deal. Viktor Gyökeres' agent has also given up 10% compensation to enable the deal to progress faster, but up till this moment it has not been sealed. Reports earlier this morning say that Manchester United has been offered the chance to sign Gyökeres from close associates within Sporting CP. The Swedish player has still made clear that he only wants to move to Arsenal and will fight for that to happen.
At this point, Gyökeres needs to leave Sporting CP at all means because if he eventually stays this season, he will be fined for refusing to go to training with the team. This story is far from over as there will be more updates this week. Arsenal and Manchester United need strikers this summer. The only way Manchester United can get a say in this deal is if they try to convince Viktor Gyökeres to join their project, and Amorim could play a big role in seeing out this deal go for Manchester United, as he and the player have a good relationship. Let's see what develops in the coming weeks to this saga. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
