Tonight's match between FC Bayern Munich and PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup made me realise that the football calendar needs to be looked at with serious caution because things are getting out of hand, and the players' safety needs to be considered. This topic has been one that I have tried not to engage because my opinions before were kind of triggering, but it was just the facts I looked at and drew my points. The complaints of this overly scheduled football calendar did not just start today but have been an issue in the football space for a long time.
Managers and players have come out to speak openly about these issues as they hoped for a solution to the problem, but the football authorities like FIFA, UEFA and many more organisations have not really done much to investigate this situation. The only thing FIFA has done so far is to guarantee the payment of a player's wages who picks up an injury during international breaks, which is fair, but a lot more needs to be done to ensure the safety of the players. In the past, I would say the players shouldn't complain about the busy schedules because they are getting paid according to the contract they agreed to sign.
Today in football, we see players and managers need more than it was 15 years ago to play on the pitch. Honestly, I don't see why they should complain with all the high payments and royalties they get in their contract, plus how will club's be able to afford these players payment if not for the busy schedules which means more amount of tickets being sold, endorsement deal from top brands, broadcasting rights and many more just to be able to run the club efficiently without any troubles as we have seen from Barcelona past mistakes how clubs can be when they are on the verge of bankruptcy.
Jamal Musiala picked up a bad injury today against PSG. The video was horrible to watch and I saw his foot twist to the other side after being tackled by the PSG goalkeeper. It was bad to watch this young player picking up that injury and reports has said he will be out for 4-5 months which probably means he may return to action in December or January next year that is half of next season gone because of the injury and this could haven't happened if the FIFA Club World Cup competition didn't kick off because players participating are supposed to be on holiday now.
It was sad to see Jamal Musiala in that pain as he was carried off the pitch this evening, and I wish him the best of luck recovering. I am sure he will be back to playing at the highest level again. This Musiala event is an eye-opener, but I guess it will not be enough for the football bodies to consider adjusting the football calendar. This same time next year, the FIFA World Cup will be in motion, which means there will be little rest for those players who participate in this competition this year.
