Kicking this series off with a dope down tempo style truth-hop artist and personal friend Quest-I-On. Quest represents one half of the duo Truniversal, the other half being his wife Nicole. She is featured in part of this set, seen in the video with their beautiful daughter Kaia, lead producer/DJ of Beats by Baby! - but more on that later...
The story about how we all met is an interesting one, but I will save that for the second series involving this tour, as we just finished ANOTHER hip hop show today! That's right - Alais rallied the troops to come throw down in the heat (got up to 95 °F today), so of course we all answered the call. Once again we lit up some majikal flames of inspiration and collective unity, welcoming in the Summer Solstice properly with heavy spells casted in verse, as the sun trailed across us till days end. We rocked Sellwood Park hard!
ALL RISE TOGETHER
The day after the Cosmic Showcase (Friday show), I went to Oasis to hang out with folks from the collective and some of the artists, and there was literally a DOPE pop-up market on the adjacent street where there were also emcees throwing down with a legit sound system - we couldn't keep away from hip hop, music, and markets if we tried or even wanted to this weekend. There was even another disco type event on the other side of Sellwood Park today from where we were performing. Portland is BACK in a BIG way, and this explosion we just birthed has created a Cascade(ia) of momentum in our local music realm... massive collaborations about to manifest.
Back to Quest-I-On & Triniversal
These are some of my favorite people, they just moved up to Portland form Cali, and I could not be happier. They even landed a dream house with a few of my other friends, very close to my place! In this house, there is a room with PERFECT acoustics for recording, second dream-space studio OTW! There will also be a mini-stage out back, where there is already a perfect round, cement platform.
This first video is only the beginning of this dream-team. Truniversal sports a crucial downtempo, low-fi style that is extremely unique and unmatched. Nicole's angelic singing is the perfect counterbalance for Mike's delivery type. I included the whole set for this one since it was short. They did a longer and more unified performance today in the park, which I will show you later.
