Setting goals is a good idea as it give direction and places focus. But let's be sincere to ourselves. Sometimes, when these goals drag on, we tend to want to lose the zeal which we first had when setting such goals.
When we get to that point when it seems like the zeal or passion to chase a goal is dwindling, many people would opt to relegate that goal to the back seat or even abandon it outright. It takes something deeper and stronger to keep us focused on that goal rather than giving up.
Personally, I have always held a quote in my heart and that quote has become ingrained in me like a thought. It awakens a new zeal in me whenever I get that cold feet feeling when striving for my goals. The quote goes thus….
Winners never quit and quitters never win. When the going gets tough, only the tough get going......(Source unknown).
The quote above is like a mantra that helps to keep my eyes on the prize, which in this case happens to be goals. I have always also had this thought that I never start what I cannot finish. So if I can start on a particular goal, then it means that I must see it to the end. With thoughts like these, I surely can't back out of a goal.
Secondly, I have a fierce passion for winning. Throwing in the towel is not usually my next option. I usually try to seek out another way, if peradventure, an initial goal I am working on hits a snag. Thus, I am able to still keep working on that goal.
This emotion of mine has been helpful in driving me towards excellence in the goals that I set to achieve. With this, I am growing to becoming a better version of my previous self and with the way that I handle things.
Thirdly, I place value on myself and the things that I want to achieve. Therefore, I don't take on too many goals at a time. Setting S.M.A.R.T goals has also helped me not to become fatigued along the line.
I know that I am a strong woman, proudly independent, beautiful, confident and intelligent but I also don't walk through life alone. There is a saying that goes thus..
If you want to go fast, walk alone but if you want to go far, go with someone.
This quote is very applicable in goals. Sometimes, when I feel overwhelmed, I share my challenges with my close friends and while I am even talking, new clues begin to form in my head on how to go about achieving the goal I set.
Also understanding that there are people watching me and looking up to me is another strong motivation that keeps me going successfully toward achieving my set goals.
