I've been building a new website from scratch.
There has been So Much To Learn!
I had another hurdle this morning when I realised that the 150+ blog posts I've written in preparation for the new launch were... not displaying anywhere.
And that's because I hadn't made a spot for them!
That's the thing about being the boss, the designer, the visionary - I can do awesome things and I can totally miss things that need doing. Haha.
So this morning's job was to work out how to add a page specifically for the blog posts to show. Several steps were easy enough but one particular thing I needed to do (that's a bit complicated to explain without turning this into a highly technical post that will bore most people) turned out to be Very Difficult To Figure Out.
I sooooooo wanted to give up. But guess what?!
I didn't.
I tried. And when it didn't work, I walked away to hang the laundry, made myself a coffee and then came back to the computer and I figured it out.
As someone who had a hardcore case of learned helplessness (that I talked about in one of these posts but I can't remember which one I am slowly but surely rewiring this part of my brain.
Every time I want to give up on something, I pause. I let myself have a mini tantrum if I need to. And then I remember two things:
It's okay to struggle through things and it's okay if I don't figure something out in the first five seconds of trying, and
Most things that seem impossible really aren't.
And that's what helped me get moving again this morning, when I said out loud to Brad, "It must be possible. I think I just have to click around some more."
Lo and behold, it was possible. I figured it out. And I'm as proud as punch.
This post was inspired by the prompt from the QC Community. The actual prompt was this:
Giving Up - What does giving up mean to you? Have you ever given up in your life? Is it true that people give up when success is very close? How do you know when to keep trying or when it's time to give up?
And while I haven't fully answered those questions, I have written a post that speaks to this idea and I'm okay with that ;)
If you want to write a post that answers these questions or simply speaks to this topic, check out this post as all the details to participate are there. All are welcome.
