It's a privilege to participate in this week's contest with the title–people. Different things happen for different reasons. Everything happening in the world today is as a result of humans behabiour. The Holy book stated that our creator created man(both men and women) in His own image and likeness.
People: Do you think people are innately good or bad? What do you think influences a person's behaviour? Do you think people could change after years of being good or bad? What do you think would trigger that change?
Do you think people are innately good or bad?
Humans were originally created to be good because we were created in the image of God and God is good. But somewhere along the line things begin to change as one begin to grow and interact with people and things around one one begin to change from good to bad or from bad to good.
What Do You Think Influences A Person's Behaviour?
A lot of external factors influence a person's behaviour.
- Parental upbringings: In a family where the parents are permissive or have low moral standards, the person's behaviour is likely to be bad and vise versa because you can not give what you do not have.
- Environment: The environment where one lives or finds oneself can also influence one's behaviour. Most people who live in a reserved environment behave differently from those who live in a ghetto.
- The Circle of friends: There's an adage that states; “when a dog that doesn't eat excreta starts associating with the one that does, it will eventually start eating excreta”. People are easily influenced by people and things around them. When a person who doesn't steal keeps friends who do, overtime the person's behaviour would change, consciously or unconsciously he begins to see nothing wrong in stealing, gradually he he joins his friends in the act.
- The kind of books a person reads or the movie usually seen can also influence a person's behaviour.
Do You Think People Could Change After Years Of Being Good Or Bad?
Before now I hardly say no to people whenever they request something from me even if I don't have it. I'd go out of my way to make sure I please the person at the expense of my comfort. In my heart I don't want to displease anyone but end up displeasing myself. I've lived my life that way up to my adult age. Then I find out that the people I go out of my way to please don't give a hoot about my feelings. Then I learnt to say no when I really mean to for my peace of mind irrespective of how people see it. To some I've changed from good to bad but in the real sense I've grown from putting others first at my detriment to putting myself first. So, to answer the question, yes,people could change after years of being good or bad.
What Do You Think Would Trigger That Change?
Personal experiences or learning from other's could trigger changes in people.
There are cases where a person behaves in a manner that is contrary to the person's behaviour and one wonders what could had led to that, it turns out that it was due to the person's encounters with people who probably had treated them right or wrong. While some may feel comfortable about it others may not because of their values and principles, not allowing people's behaviour towards them to change who they truly are.
Conclusion
People were created to be good, though several factors influence their behaviours. Different negative or positive experiences can trigger people to change from good to bad and vise versa.
